Sophie Zehender is a graduate assistant coach for Sam Houston State University and a former athlete for University of Wyoming.
A four-time All-Mountain West Conference singles and doubles performer at Wyoming, Sophie Zehender joined the Bearkat tennis program as a graduate assistant coach for the 2024-25 season. The only Wyoming Cowgirl to be named as all-conference in both singles and doubles for four consecutive seasons, Zehender set a single-season school record pairing with partner Violetta Borodina for 26 doubles victories during her senior year. Zehender completed her college tennis career with 62 singles victories and 67 doubles wins. She stands 7th on the Wyoming all-time doubles chart and 15th in career singles.
The Stuttgart, Germany product came to Wyoming with an outstanding high school and junior career. She won the German Second District Championship and was a runner-up at the Baden-Wuttembergische Championship. She also participated in both the youth and women’s German Championships. In 2019, Zehender reached the semifinals of three German national tournaments and the finals of a pair of regional tournaments. She also finished at the RVR Cup Champion and reached the semifinals in both the Ladies Open and Dimah Open.
