Cal Coach Stefan Clemens

Heading into the 2017 season, the Golden Bears welcomed volunteer coach Stefan Clemens to the staff.

Clemens, most recently the assistant coach for men’s soccer programs at Las Positas Junior College (2016-17) and at Cal State, East Bay (2015-16), adds value as a former professional and collegiate player.

Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Clemens headed competitive youth soccer squads Lamorinda United in Lafayette, Calif., and Ballistic United in Pleasanton, Calif., from 2009-2016. He also participated in Barcelona FC Coaching Tour (Barcelona, Spain) in 2009 and Manchester United Coaching Tour (Manchester, England) in 2014, where coaches were invited to observe and learn from top European football clubs.

With his time as a player on the pitch, Clemens brings additional depth to the credentialed men’s soccer staff. After his collegiate playing career with the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, where he appeared in the 2004 NCAA Division III National Championship, Clemens spent three years as a player on the professional circuit.

He played a pair of seasons with Navua FC in Navua, Fiji (2009 and 2010) before a one-year stint with the professional indoor soccer team Bay Area Rosal in Livermore, Calif.

Clemens graduated from UCSC in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Global Economics.
