Stephanie Benkowski

Stephanie Benkowski is the Assistant Coach of both the boys and girls volleyball teams at Moon Area High School.

Prior to missing the playoffs in 2009, Waynesburg made it to the postseason following the 2008 campaign. That year, the Jackets earned an 11-20 overall record and a 6-8 mark in PAC action. As the fifth seed in the tourney, Waynesburg picked up a 3-1 upset victory over number-four Thiel on the Tomcats’ home court.

It was the first win in the conference tourney for Waynesburg since 2005. The Jackets then went on and played well against the eventual champs from Westminster during a 3-1 loss.

Individually, Benkowski enjoyed a first for her time at Waynesburg as senior outside hitter Laurie Lindner was named PAC Player of the Year. It was the first time Benkowski had coached a player to the prestigious honor. Lindner joined three of her teammates on the 2008 All-PAC squad.

After a rough start to her first season (2005) at Waynesburg that had the team four games below .500, Benkowski guided the Yellow Jackets to 13-consecutive victories.

Waynesburg went on to finish the season at 21-13 overall with an 11-1 mark in conference play and an appearance in the PAC Championship match.

For her efforts, Benkowski earned PAC Coach of the Year honors.

The Waynesburg volleyball team has also consistently held a strong presence on the annual Fall PAC Academic Honor Roll and 2009 was no different. The Jacket volleyball team featured nine players on the list, which tied for the second most honorees in the conference.
