Cal Softball Head Coach

Steve Singleton - Cal Softball Head Coach

Steve Singleton comes to Cal Softball after a decorated coaching career at the University of Texas, where he helped guide the Longhorns to unprecedented success. During his tenure, Texas made five consecutive NCAA postseason appearances, reached the Women’s College World Series three times (2022, 2024, 2025), finished as national runner-up twice, and captured the program’s first-ever national championship in 2025. In 2024, Singleton was named D1Softball’s Assistant Coach of the Year, and in 2025, he and his staff earned the ATEC/NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year honor.

An Oakland native and Bishop O’Dowd High School graduate, Singleton brings a wealth of playing experience as well. Drafted in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins in 2006, he played 654 professional games up to AAA with a career .282 batting average, earning three consecutive Minor League All-Star selections from 2008–2010.

Before arriving at Texas, Singleton served as a hitting coach in the Twins organization, guiding the Fort Myers Miracle to a Florida State League title in 2018 and working as the U.S. hitting coach for the 2018 MLB All-Star Futures Game. His coaching career began at Florida Southwestern State College, where he was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, assembling a class that included four MLB draft picks, and 10 NCAA Division I transfers.

“I am extremely excited to lead the Cal Bears softball program,” Singleton said. “With the new stadium, the support of the department, in-state recruiting, and the world-class degree Cal offers, this is a special place to build something great.”

Singleton holds both a bachelor’s degree in sports management (2014) and a master’s degree in athletic administration (2017) from Southern New Hampshire University.
