Head Men's Soccer Coach

Taylor Diem

Taylor

Taylor Diem, a former Regis University men's soccer standout, was named the Head Regis University Men's Soccer Coach in October 2021 after spending three seasons as the assistant coach under head coach Tony McCall.

Diem currently owns a record of 28-23-5 overall (.545) and has led the Rangers to back-to-back RMAC Tournament appearances.

In the fall of 2022, the Rangers finished 8-9-2 and won their final four games of the regular season. Sophomore forward Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit was named the RMAC Player of the Year, finishing with 13 goals and 30 total points, and was one of four Regis players (Kristian Hooker, Kevin Chela and Matteo Colombo) to be named to the RMAC All-Conference teams.

In his first full season at the helm, Diem led the Rangers to a 10-8-1 overall record in 2021, ranking as high as No. 22 in the country after upsetting No. 4 Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 8, 2021. Regis would advance to the RMAC semi-finals before falling to Colorado Mesa. The 2021 Rangers squad placed five players on the All-RMAC teams, three players on the D2CCA Second Team All-Region team, while senior Christian Hooker earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and fellow senior Nick Mootz won RMAC Man of the Year.

Diem helped the Rangers earn a 3-3 record overall during the COVID-19 abbreviated 2020 season, including a 2-1 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. One of the highlights of this season was a 1-0, double-overtime, upset win at CSU Pueblo, one of the No. 2-seeded teams, during the RMAC Tournament as one of the No. 3-seeded teams on April 20.

He helped Regis earn its way during the 2019 season to an impressive 11-6-3 record overall and a 9-4-1 record in conference play. No. 2 seed RU punched its ticket to the RMAC Tournament Championship upon defeating No. 5 seed Fort Lewis in a 2-1, double-overtime, comeback win in the RMAC Tournament Semifinals at home on Nov. 10.

Diem’s first season with the Rangers coaching staff led to a 10-6-2 record overall and a 9-3-2 record in RMAC play, which was good enough for fourth place in the RMAC and earned a berth in the RMAC Tournament.

As an assistant coach at Johnson & Wales University, Diem spent two seasons with the Wildcats, guiding the team to its first Association of Independent Institutions (AII) Conference Tournament appearance in 2015. During his time at JWU, Diem oversaw two National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region players, 11 AII All-Conference selections, including Freshman of the Year Dalton Pando in 2015.

Originally from Madison, Wis., Diem is a 2013 graduate of Regis University, where he played three seasons with Regis. At RU, Diem was named to the Daktronics All-America First Team and the NSCAA All-America Second Team in addition to being named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-RMAC First Team in his senior season. Diem was one of the most decorated Rangers during his junior season, when he was selected NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team, Daktronics All-Central Region First Team and All-RMAC Second Team.

In his three seasons at Regis, Diem helped lead the team to a 44-9-6 record, including the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010. In his final season with RU, Diem and the Rangers were ranked by the NSCAA as the top NCAA Division II program for three straight weeks and finished with a perfect 14-0 RMAC record on their way to a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
