Nike Baseball Camp Ted Hurvul Bio

Ted Hurvul begins his fourth season as the Fairfield pitching coach, guiding what has become one of the premiere pitching staffs in the conference during his tenure.

In his three seasons, the Fairfield pitching staff has accumulated the top-three spots in single-season program history in strikeouts, setting the program record with 372 in 2017. That 2017 group also ranked 14th in the nation in fewest walks allowed.

In total, the Stags have recorded 1060 strikeouts and a 2.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio during his three seasons.

In his career as the Stags pitching coach, Hurvul has helped guide three All-MAAC Pitchers including the 2017 NEIBA Pitcher of the Year and All-MAAC First Team member Gavin Wallace. Under his tutelage, the right hander Wallace has blossomed into becoming one of the better pitchers in the region, setting the program record with shutouts with four in 2017. Wallace also threw seven complete games, the most by a Stag in 17 years and tied the program standard with eight victories for the second-straight season.

In his first season as a collegiate Division I pitching coach, Hurvul helped lead the Stags to the second-best ERA in the league, which was the cornerstone of the Stags winning their first-ever MAAC Tournament Title and their first-ever appearance in a NCAA Regional.

During his first conference campaign, the Stags led the league in ERA (3.16) and fewest walks allowed (44) during MAAC only games.

Among other success stories, John Signore has developed into one of the best pitchers in program history, being named to the All-MAAC First Team in 2018 and ranking in the top-10 in nearly every pitching category in program history.

Hurvul, a former pitcher from UCONN, has served as a pitching coach at a number of levels including Division III Washington College, and at the Cape Cod League, the premiere summer league in the country.

Hurvul spent three seasons, leading the pitching staff of Washington College, helping the Shoremen to their lowest team ERA in over 20 years this past season. The staff recorded a 3.35 ERA, their lowest since entering the Centennial Conference in 1994. Additionally, rising senior Dan Jarrell was named the team’s MVP in 2015, the first time in over five seasons a pitcher received that distinction.

Hurvul spent his summers as the pitching coach in different summer leagues, most recently he served in the dugout of the Bourne Braves at the Cape Cod Summer League, the premiere summer league in the country. In 2014, Hurvul helped develop two Cape Cop League All-Stars as the Braves were named the President’s Cup Champions.

Before getting into coaching, Hurvul was a left-handed pitcher at UCONN during one their most successful year in recent school history. In 2011, the Huskies would win the Big East Regular Season Championship and advance to the Super Regional, finishing the season ranked 11th in the country. Hurvul would be named to the Big East All-Academic team during that season and in 2012.

Hurvul graduated from UCONN in 2012 with a major in Coaching and Administration. He also received a minor in Business Administration. At Washington College, Hurvul earned a Masters of Art in History in 2014.
