Todd Kent

Coach Kent enters his twelfth season with UCSC as the most successful head coach in program history. Over the six seasons between 2013-2018, Kent took the Women's Basketball program to an unprecedented level of success. Under Kent, UC Santa Cruz made their first NCAA Tournament appearances back-to-back in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

In 2013-14 the program completed their most successful season going 18-7 overall and having a program best 10-game win streak during the months of January and February. At the end of the 2016-17 season he became the first basketball coach at UC Santa Cruz -men's or women's - to tally 100 victories. Two of his players -Sarah Mackey and Leah Parrish - graduated as the top two rebounders in school history and only the second and third players at UCSC with over 1,000 career points.

Kent's team has experienced tremendous success in the classroom as well. During the 2012-13 season the team finished with a 3.45 team GPA placing the 23 nationally in DIII. In 2013-14 they again earned a team GPA above 3.4 which placed them in with the top academic teams in the country for the second year in a row. In 2015-16, UC Santa Cruz was the only team in the entire NCAA through all divisions to make the NCAA Tournament AND finish in the top five academically.

Prior to taking over at UCSC in 2009, Todd was at Seattle University where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach helping the team to an overall record of 46-20. During his second season at Seattle U the team finished 20-9 during their first year transitioning to DI. Todd was at La Salle High School in Yakima, Washington prior to Seattle where he was the Dean of Students, a teacher, and the head girls Basketball Coach. In five seasons at La Salle he compiled a record of 106-23. He led his team to a class B State Championship in 2006 and was named Seattle Times Washington State B Girls Coach of the Year. He was awarded the same honor in 2007 as well when he led his team to a state runner-up finish. Todd was also the coach of the Eastern Washington All-State Girls Team in the summers of 2006 and 2007. He has also made coaching stops at Highland HS, Rosalia HS, Lind HS, and South Puget Sound Community College.

Todd is a graduate of Eastern Washington University where he earned his degree in Recreation and Leisure Service Management. He received his Master’s In Teaching degree from Heritage University in 2003. During his free time Kent enjoys hiking with his family and mountain biking the many wonderful trails in the Santa Cruz area, with his wife Stephanie, who is the Chief Nursing Executive for Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center in Santa Cruz. The Kents are the proud parents of two daughters Frances and Hazel Lou.
