Coaching Career Prior to Salisbury

A native of the Eastern Shore town of Cambridge, Md., Brohawn returned to the Sea Gull program after a five-year stint as the head coach of the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School where he led the Vikings to the state championship in 2013. Brohawn served as the Sea Gulls’ pitching coach for four seasons from 2006-2009. During that time Salisbury posted a 149-32 record, including a program-best 41-4 mark in 2008. While coaching, Brohawn completed and earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 2009.

Playing Career

An accomplished player, Brohawn played three years of Division I baseball at the University of Nebraska before embarking on a decade-long professional career. While at Nebraska, he was named to the Dean's List three times and was a First-Team All-American in 1993, tossing 13 complete games and setting a Cornhusker program record with 123 strikeouts in 111.1 innings.

In 1994 he was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He played 11 seasons in three major league organizations, making 82 major league appearances from 2001-03 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, going 4-4 with a 4.86 ERA and one save over 66.2 innings.

Brohawn made his debut in The Show for the would-be world champion Diamondbacks on April 14, 2001. On November 3, 2001, he pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Arizona's 15-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the World Series. Before striking out Clay Bellinger to force a thrilling Game 7 - which the Diamondbacks would win in walkoff fashion - Brohawn retired Scott Brosius on a popout to second; both men would eventually win Division III national championships as head coaches.

Brohawn also owns arguably the best career pitching record against MLB home run king Barry Bonds. In 11 career plate appearances against Brohawn, Bonds went 0-for-10 with one walk and four strikeouts.
