TYRONE EDGAR

Director of Track and Field Khadevis Robinson announced Tyrone Edgar as an assistant track and field coach in the Fall of 2022.

Edgar comes to TCU after 11 seasons as an assistant coach for the UT Arlington men’s and women’s track and field teams. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for both programs. A former world-class sprinter with Team NIKE, he helped lead the Mavericks to three men’s indoor SunBelt Conference titles (2014, 2017, 2019) and three outdoor crowns (2014, 2015, 2017).

While at UTA, Edgar coached some of the program’s all-time best sprinters. In 2020, Ismael Kone, the 2020 Men’s SBC Outstanding Freshman, was the only male to win multiple individual events at the SBC Indoor Championships as he swept the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. He ran a personal-best 6.74 to win the 60m and followed it up with a 21.03 in the 200m, the No. 3 time in school history.

Edgar's professional experience made an immediate impact. Since 2014, three individual school sprint records and one relay record have been broken. Clayton Vaughn (men's indoor 60m, men’s outdoor 100m), Vanessa Ugorji (women's outdoor 400m), as well as the men's 4x100m relay team, were all school records that were broken in Edgar’s tenure.

A native of Great Britain, Edgar is no stranger to the international stage. He was a member of the country’s 4x100 relay team that reached the Semifinals at the 2008 Bejing Olympics. He was a 100m semifinalist at the 2009 World Championships while also garnering a bronze medal as a member of Great Britain’s 4x100 relay team.

He ran a life-time best of 10.06 as he garnered gold in the 100m at the 2008 European Cup.

Edgar was a two-time All-American at Texas A&M and was a three-time All-Big 12 Conference selection. He was the 100m runner-up at the 2006 Big 12 Championships and placed seventh at the NCAA Championships that same season.

Prior to Texas A&M, he was an eight-time NJCAA All-American at Kansas City Community College. He graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in agricultural leadership and development.

He and his wife, Jade, have a son, Kinston, and a daughter, Kennedy.
