Walt Montford - Camp Director

Basketball has been a lifelong passion for me. Growing up, I attended the renowned John Chaney-Sonny Hill Basketball Camp at Temple University in Philadelphia for six years, where I developed my love for the game and learned valuable lessons from some of the area’s most respected basketball minds. After my playing days, I returned to the camp as a counselor and coach for three years, helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence both on and off the court.

Over the past four years, I have coached more than 20 Nike Basketball Camps, primarily at Princeton Day School under the leadership of Joel Green, while also working camps at RiverWinds Community Center alongside Randy B. These experiences have allowed me to work with athletes of all ages and skill levels while continuing to grow as a coach and mentor.

My AAU coaching career began as a head coach with South Jersey Jazz, coaching high school players in grades 9 through 12. During my time with the program, I helped lead teams to multiple tournament and championship victories while building strong relationships with players and families.

Currently, I coach with Team Final Black, working alongside my close friend Jourdain Blackmon, who serves as an assistant coach at Rutgers University–Camden. Together, we coach the 15U team, focusing on player development, accountability, and preparing young athletes for success at the next level.

In addition, I am a volunteer assistant coach with Camden County College, where I have been involved with the program for the past two years. I continue to learn and grow under the guidance of one of New Jersey’s most respected coaches, Lou Abbattista. My coaching philosophy centers on teaching fundamentals, building character, fostering teamwork, and helping athletes maximize their potential both on the court and in life.

Through every opportunity, my goal remains the same: to positively impact young athletes and help them develop the skills, confidence, and work ethic necessary to succeed.
