Wayne Wetherby

Wayne Wetherby is the former assistant coach at Colorado College and current head coach of the Discovery Canyon Boys Team (2022 state champions!). He has played and coached volleyball for over 30 years.

This will be Coach Wetherby’s 30^th year coaching volleyball. He has coached at the club, high school, and college level. Coach Wetherby coached girls high school volleyball for 12 years as an assistant and head coach. He coached girls club volleyball for 15 years as a head coach for multiple age groups from 14’s through 18’s where he was known for developing skilled players. He took multiple teams to the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships. Coach Wetherby also spent 15 years at Colorado College as an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team. The Colorado College Women’s Volleyball Team is one of the most successful collegiate volleyball programs in the state and country having earned 22 straight NCAA National Championship appearances. Coach Wetherby was an Assistant Camp Director during the summer for the Colorado College Volleyball Camps for 15 years. He was also a coach for USA Volleyball’s High Performance Volleyball Camps and a court coach for the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team and Junior National Team tryouts.

2022 was Coach Wetherby’s first year coaching boys volleyball and his Discovery Canyon boys volleyball team won the 2022 Colorado State 5A Boys Volleyball Championship. His team went 27-0 in matches and 78-0 in sets en route to the state championship.

Coach Wetherby has also played volleyball for 25 years. He played for the Colorado State University Men’s Club Team for 3 years, where he was a defensive specialist, setter, and outside hitter, and has played on many adult 6 on 6, 4 on 4, and doubles teams.
