Nike All-Girls Sand Flag Football Camp at South Huntington Beach

Katie Goto (Kahlweiss) graduated from the University of San Diego in 2005. From 2001-2004 Katie played indoor volleyball played for the Toreros and earned 4 consecutive NCAA appearances to the national tournament and became West Coast Conference Champions with a NCCA Sweet Sixteen finish in 2004. In 2003, she also played in a summer indoor tournament representing the USA in Sibilini, Italy.

Katie majored in History with a Single Subject teaching credential and obtained Master’s in Secondary Education, she currently teaches at Foothill High School in Tustin, CA. In 2013, she was the Head Coach at Fairmont Prep Academy and was awarded San Joaquin League Coach of the Year for her coaching abilities and her Varsity team’s overall performance in the 2013 volleyball season. From 2006-2012, Katie coached at WAVE Volleyball Club in San Diego, while she was there her teams were very successful winning Junior National Qualifiers and at Junior Olympics earning several medals.

In 2007, Katie began playing in various beach volleyball tournaments such as CBVA and AVP tournaments. In 2007 and 2008 she went to Rio de Janeiro, trained with Brazilian beach coaches, and played against other international players. She earned AAA beach rating in 2010. Katie still plays beach volleyball on a regular basis in her free time.

Flag Football has been a growing love for her and her household in the past three years, she has two daughters that have been on various teams throughout the past couple years and is excited to see the sport grow tremendously nationally and especially in Southern California. Katie is excited to coach this camp using her expertise in quickness, agility, plyometrics, and fun competition. She will use her professional coaching experience and bring that energy and management to this new flag football camp in the sand.

Coach Goto grew up in Tustin, CA where he attended Foothill High School. While there he played Football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse and ran track. Coach Goto was named the team MVP his senior year in Football and won an Orange County Title in lacrosse. Coach Goto was lucky enough to play a multitude of positions throughout his football career. He was a quarterback and defensive-back playing flag football as a youth. Throughout his high school football career he played tight-end, running back, wide receiver, cornerback, and linebacker. In college Coach Goto played safety. With the experience of playing all these positions, Coach Goto can help build the complete football player, no matter the position.

Coach Goto attended Chapman University, where he played football, lacrosse and majored in Liberal Studies, with an emphasis in mathematics. While at Chapman he was named an All-American in lacrosse and received his teaching credential and Masters in Education.

Coaching is a passion he found early in life, as he has been coaching sports for over 20 years, ranging from elementary students to the collegiate level. Most recently Coach Goto has coached high school football and lacrosse and girls youth flag football in Costa Mesa.

Currently he teaches at Foothill High School in Tustin, his Alma Mater, and is a Varsity Assistant Coach on campus. Matt believes the art of teaching and coaching are one in the same, both helping to build pillars of success in the structure of the “student athlete”. Teaching skills and experience help him scaffold practice plans and find ways to break down the sport and movements to digestible parts young athletes can comprehend and replicate.

Coach Matt’s believes breaking down the details of fag football. Sports have a lot of moving parts, thus detail must be taken to get all those moving parts to work as one. It is with this concept in mind that he coaches, helping athletes put the small things together in hopes of creating the desired result.

Matt brings years of coaching experience across all sports mediums and a desire to help young athletes learn and build confidence.

Currently, I’m a high school teacher at Tustin High School, where I’ve found my true calling teaching U.S. History: helping young minds both in the classroom and on the field. Flag football has become an exciting and fast-growing sport, and I’ve been involved at the varsity level as it has become a CIF recognized girls sport. I serve as the varsity assistant flag football coach at Tustin High, where I focus on building strong defensive strategies, enhancing game knowledge, and sharpening skills. I also assist with coaching boys varsity baseball, further fueling my dedication to team sports and building all around athletes.

What I love most about coaching is the opportunity to instill important values like teamwork, discipline, and resilience in my players. I bring a high-energy approach to everything I do, creating an environment where athletes can grow, have fun, and thrive both on and off the field. I’m thrilled to be able to help inspire young girls and continue to grow the football community. My ultimate goal is to help these kids build confidence, master the fundamentals, and discover the joy of the game.
