Camp Overview

Improve your game and have serious fun
at Nike Flag Football Camps

Nike Girls Flag Football Camp at the University of South Florida is a high-energy, 3-day training experience designed specifically for incoming 6th–8th grade girls with at least one year of flag football experience. Held from 9:00am–1:00pm, this camp is perfect for athletes who are ready to sharpen their skills, compete, and grow in confidence on and off the field.

Led by Alex Wheat Jr., a highly respected coach who has trained girls flag athletes at every level—including members of the U.S. National Team—campers will receive position-specific coaching, advanced flag concepts, and competitive reps in a fast-paced, supportive environment. Coach Wheat and his staff are passionate about developing both football IQ and character, emphasizing leadership, teamwork, and resilience throughout the camp.

Days 1 and 2 focus heavily on skill development, including route running, flag pulling, coverage techniques, throwing mechanics, footwork, and game situations. Athletes will take part in small-group drills, controlled scrimmages, and competitive challenges designed to build confidence and prepare them for real-game moments.

On Day 3, campers will put it all together in a camp-wide tournament, showcasing what they’ve learned in a fun, competitive atmosphere. Parents are welcome to join us on the last day to watch the tournament and take part in the closing ceremony.

If your daughter loves flag football and wants to take her game to the next level while building character, confidence, and connections with other motivated girls, the Nike Girls Flag Football Camp at USF is the place to be.

  • Idalys Acosta

    Camp Coach

I have been playing flag football for nine years, beginning in high school, and the sport has played a major role in my personal growth and athletic development. Over the past two years, I’ve been actively working with and coaching girls in flag football, focusing on skill development, game awareness, and overall confidence on and off the field.

    Idalys Acosta

    Camp Coach

I am based in the Tampa/Westchase area, where I’ve witnessed firsthand the rapid growth of girls’ flag football. When I graduated high school, scholarship opportunities for female flag athletes were extremely limited. Seeing how much the sport has expanded — and the doors it is now opening for young women — is one of the main reasons I began training athletes. I wanted to give back to the community and help the next generation maximize opportunities that weren’t as available before.

Professionally, my involvement in flag football includes:
    • Athlete Skill Development: Position-specific training, route running, defensive mechanics, footwork, agility, and game-speed decision-making.
    • Football IQ & Strategy: Teaching offensive and defensive concepts, situational awareness, and understanding spacing and timing.
    • Strength & Movement Training: Improving speed, change of direction, balance, and injury prevention fundamentals.
    • Confidence & Leadership Development: Mentoring athletes to build mental toughness, accountability, and belief in their abilities.
    • Community Impact: Supporting the growth of girls’ flag football locally by creating structured training environments that prepare athletes for high school, collegiate, and competitive club opportunities.

My goal is not only to develop stronger athletes, but to help build disciplined, confident young women who understand both the responsibility and opportunity that comes with representing their team and the sport.

    Camp Coach

For the last 4 years he has been the Offensive Coordinator for Palm Harbor University High School and Co-owns and operates the Tampa Bay Warriors Flag Football League and Travel teams.
