Interim Head Women's Lacrosse Coach, Zach Tamburello, is offering prospects an on-campus recruiting opportunity at Roanoke College! Prospects will be hosted at the beautiful Roanoke College campus located in Salem, a suburban city adjacent to Roanoke, Virginia.

Roanoke College offers a beautiful campus in a classic college town, with a vibrant city and beautiful countryside just minutes away. The campus is only 10 minutes from the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, with direct flights to more than nine cities in the Midwest and East Coast, and it's 3-4 hours by car from Charlotte, N.C., Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C.

    Tamburello came to Roanoke College as an assistant coach prior to the 2018 season and in August of 2021 was named interim head coach of the program.

    The 2021 season would see the Maroons finish runner-up in the regular season as well as the ODAC Tournament. The Roanoke offense would finish 41st in the nation with a 15.69 g/game average on their way to a 9-4 (5-1 ODAC) record in a truncated season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

    In the 2019 season he led the 18th ranked offense in the country, averaging 16.42 g/game. Guided an offense that ranks 2nd all-time in points (452), goals (312) and assists (140) in a single season. Mentored Jenn Schwechheimer who the lead the ODAC in points (112). She also broke the ODAC and Roanoke records of points in a single game with 17. Jenn ranked 14th nationally in assists and 22nd nationally in asst/game, 17th nationally in points and 22nd nationally pts/game. Tamburello also helped senior Katie Clements to a career 255 DC, becoming second all-time in Roanoke lacrosse history.

    In 2018 he led the 48th nationally ranked offense the country in his first year with the team, averaging 14.63g/game. By the end of the season, the Maroons offense placed themselves in the Roanoke record books, 8th all-time in points, 6th in goals and 9th in assists.

    Under Tamburello’s guidance as the offensive coordinator, the team has produced, three all-state selections, 3 all-region selections and 12 all-ODAC selections. The offense in the past two years has amassed 546 goals, 212 assists and 758 points. Tamburello plans to continue the team’s success for the 2020 season, despite losing some of its top leading scorers from a year ago.

    Tamburello comes to Salem after one year as the lead assistant at Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif. As a member of the Sagehens staff, Tamburello was involved in all facets of the women's lacrosse program including on-field instruction, practice and game planning and all recruiting efforts.

    Tamburello made the jump to the collegiate ranks last season after having success as a high school coach in both Florida and Northern Virginia. His Oak Hall High School team in Gainesville, Fla., won back-to-back district championships, leading to a pair of Gainesville Sun Coach of the Year honors for Tamburello.

    Prior to his time at Oak Hall, he spent two seasons as the head coach at Fauquier High School in Warrenton, Va., earning the 2014 Battlefield Group Coach of the Year.

    Tamburello is a 2010 graduate of Radford University with a degree in Exercise, Sport and Health Education.

Roanoke College is excited to offer it's Prospect Day on Thursday, July 7th. The time for the clinic will be 9:00am-1:00pm.

  • 9:00am-11:00pm - Clinic at Grass Fields, Elizabeth Campus Roanoke College
  • 11:00pm-11:30pm - Team Q&A
  • 11:45pm-12:00pm - Admissions Presentation
  • 12:00pm- 1:00pm - Tour with Captains

A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers prior to camp. All health and release forms will be collected on the first day of camp.
