Camp Director Joe Rautenstrauch
Directing camp this summer is Joe Rautenstrauch. Coach "Raut" played lacrosse at Division 1, Canisius College, and is the current Head Coach of D3's John Carroll University.View Joe's Bio ⟩
Joe Rautenstrauch begins his second season as the head coach of the John Carroll men's lacrosse program.
In his first season as head coach, Rautenstrauch led the Blue Streaks to a 13-5 overall record while going undefeated in conference play (8-0). He also became the first coach to garner a victory during the NCAA tournament when the Blue Streaks defeated Albion College 14-9.
Rautenstrauch comes to John Carroll from Canisius College, a Division I program located in Buffalo, New York, where he served as an assistant coach for men's lacrosse coach since the fall of 2013. He also played lacrosse at Canisius for four years during his undergraduate years.
While coaching at Canisius, Rautenstrauch worked as the team's defensive coordinator in 2016, working with a young unit that lowered its scoring defense average and finished ranked 48th in the country.
In his previous two seasons on the staff of head coach Randy Mearns, Rautenstrauch focused on working with the faceoff units and the goaltenders. While working with goaltenders, he improved their save percentage by 25 percent and dropped their goals against average by 2.5 goals per game. Rautenstrauch was also able to aid in improving the main faceoff taker's percentage by boosting it to a 57 percent win rate over two years.
After graduating with a bachelor in Sports Management in 2013, Rautenstrauch earned his masters degree in Sports Administration at his alma mater in 2014 and graduated as Magna Cum Laude.
As a player, Rautenstrauch was a four year letterwinner for the Griffs. He enjoyed a breakout season at Canisius during his senior campaign in 2013, as he played in all 13 games and ranked second on the team with 27 points on 18 goals and nine assists. Primarily a defensive midfielder during his first three seasons at the College, Rautenstrauch appeared in 39 career games with 32 points, 18 goals, 14 assists and 63 ground balls, helping lead the Griffs to the MAAC Championship in 2012.
In addition to the world of lacrosse, Rautenstrauch spent one academic year as an adjunct professor at Canisius College, and is involved in multiple service organizations such as Team Impact! and Habitat for Humanity.

June 30, 2018: My son cannot stop talking about the camp! He enjoyed the hours of play, meeting friends who love lacrosse, and the staff was very positive and supportive! Emory University is a beautiful campus and he expressed that the food was great! Thank you for a great experience... wish it could've been longer!
— Natalie G., Parent
July 17, 2017: I really liked the championship game! My team won and it was a ton of fun.
— Lawrence P. Camper
July 18, 2017: My son said the high point for him was the evening discussions between the players and the coaches. He said he enjoyed it because the coaches took time to get to know the players and their needs and the players got to know one another. He said he also got some good field tips as well. He said he enjoyed it overall better than last year...thank you for making that happen!
— Rushunda G. Parent
July 14, 2017: A highlight for my son was the new lacrosse experience and first time away for camp. He loved making new friends and the food!
— Zach M. Camper
The best camp!
July 22, 2016: I've been to Nike Xcelerate Lacrosse Camp at Emory University for 2 years in a row. If your a beginner who needs to learn the skills, or an intermediate/advanced player who needs to touch up on their skills, this is the best camp for you. The coaching staff teach us the Brotherhood of lacrosse in a non-competitive setting. Even though I've been playing lacrosse for three years, I always learn new skills at camp and how to play various positions.
— Bobby L. Camper
July 23, 2016: The camp truly helped me become a better lacrosse player. The coaches spent a lot of time getting us to understand the techniques and strategies of the game. Sharpening these skills against other quality players makes this camp one of the best.
— Robert S. Camper
July 21, 2015: My son attended your camp for the first time this summer. He had a fabulous time and feels that he has improved his game! Thanks for all your hard work and for providing an opportunity for our southern boys to experience LAX camp! Sincerely, one very happy mom and son.
— Jacob M. Parent
July 21, 2015: I'd like to thank you, for giving my son such a great experience. He came away with improved skill and more confidence in his game. The group of boys from Florida that we traveled with could not stop talking about their week with you, how much they learned and how fun the camp was. I think I can safely say you did a great job with our boys from Jupiter, Florida.
