220310 Doug Bruno Hall of Fame 002

Doug Bruno, DePaul University Women’s Head Basketball Coach and Director of Doug Bruno Girls Basketball Camps has been elected to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. For those that know Doug Bruno, this honor comes as no surprise, as he has led the DePaul Blue Demons to tremendous success in his 36 years as head coach.

Coach Bruno played basketball himself at DePaul University and returned to his alma mater as a coach, first for the men’s team before transitioning to coaching women’s basketball. His long illustrious career features many highlights and outstanding accomplishments. One of Coach Bruno’s most impressive achievements while coaching at DePaul is qualifying for the NCAA Tournament 24 times, including a jaw-dropping 18 consecutive appearances from 2003 – 2020. He has also won 10 regular season conference titles, as well as 7 conference tournament championships. Bruno’s coaching success expands further than college basketball, as he was an assistant coach for USA Basketball and helped guide the team to gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

Not only has Coach Bruno achieved success on the court, but he has also helped grow women’s basketball off the court. In 2005, Coach Bruno was selected to be the President of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, which unifies coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for women’s basketball and promotes the development of the game in all its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.

Coach Bruno is currently the Director of Doug Bruno Basketball Camps taking place in Illinois. Although he has recently stepped away from on-court instruction at camp, he is still heavily involved in the camp curriculum and will make an appearance at each camp session. Current Camp Director of Doug Bruno Girls Basketball Camps, Beth Roti, stated “I have been fortunate to have played for Coach Bruno, as well as working side by side with him at the Bruno Basketball Camp since 1988. He has a passion for the game of basketball and has been a monumental advocate for the advancement of women's sports. Anyone who has gone to the Bruno Camp or has been coached by him has truly been blessed. I don't know of a coach more deserving of this honor. Doug Bruno is the epitome of desire, dedication, and hard work.”

On behalf of US Sports Camps, we would like to congratulate Doug Bruno for his incredible achievement in being inducted into the Women’s Basketball of Fame.
