DEVELOP SPEED, AGILITY, AND QUICKNESS AT THIS SPRINTS, HURDLES, & RELAYS CLINIC

Participants will be introduced to general, intermediate, advanced, and specific training paradigms, as well as strategies to elevate their skill set.

You can expect high demand on these first-come-first-serve spots, so please be sure to register early.

Upon completing one of these Speed Development Individual & Team Sports Camp, each participant will know the difference between frontside and backside mechanics, learn drills that will reinforce the proper mechanics to improve their overall performance, force production, and agility designed to translate to all sports and benefit all athletes, regardless of age or skill level.

    CEO of Daniels High Performance. Coach Daniels is also the NSAF Nike Elite Program Manager for Sprints and Hurdles. Throughout his coaching tenure, Coach Daniels has guided his athletes to 155 All-American honors across NCAA Division I, II, and III, producing champions at every level. His commitment to both athletic and academic excellence is reflected in his athletes’ 160 MEAC All-Academic selections, 74 SEC All-Academic honors, and multiple USTFCCCA National Team recognitions. His leadership has also resulted in 52 conference champions, four conference record-holders, 162 NCAA East Regional qualifying marks, 56 NCAA Championship participants, and 2 NCAA Division III national record-holders.

Mechelle Lewis Freeman is recognized for her contributions to track and field as both an elite sprinter and a leading figure in athlete development. A standout competitor for Team USA, she competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the 4x100m relay team, demonstrating exceptional speed, dedication, and competitive excellence on the world stage.

    Clinician Dawn Harper-Nelson

    Dawn Harper-Nelson is one of the most decorated hurdlers in U.S. track and field history, celebrated for her consistency, resilience, and championship pedigree. The two-time Olympian and NSAF Nike Program Manager for Sprints and Hurdles made history by winning gold in the 100m hurdles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the first American woman to do so since 1988. She followed up her victory with a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, solidifying her status as one of the greatest hurdlers of her generation.

Camp Details

RESCHEDULED**

The Nike Sport Performance Camp in Chula Vista focuses on developing speed, agility, and quickness in sprints, hurdles, and relays. This clinic is for both Individual and Team Sport athletes looking to develop and prepare for their next season.

Participants will be introduced to general, intermediate, advanced, and specific training paradigms as well as strategies to elevate their individual skill set.

2025 SPRINT, HURDLE, & RELAYS CLINIC OVERVIEW

  • Dates: December 6-7, 2025 (Saturday-Sunday)** This clinic is being rescheduled for summer 2026, we appreciate your patience as we confirm new dates.
  • Ages: 10-18
  • Gender: Co-ed
  • Camp Type: Day
  • Check-in Starts at 2:30 pm: Clinic start time 3:20 pm
  • Saturday Afternoon Session: 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm Participants are responsible for their lunch, snacks, and hydration
  • Sunday Session: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Sunday Lunch (12:15 to 1:30 pm): Participants are responsible for their lunch, snacks, and hydration
  • For Coach Registration, please register use the registration option for ages 18-100 when adding the clinic to your cart.

Session One - Skill Development Drills

In a group setting, we will teach a series of drills in a systematic sequence designed to reinforce proper frontside mechanic drill progression and provide error correction, which will turn an athlete’s weaknesses into strengths, improve skill, and increase performance by teaching strengthening exercises to enhance muscle groups considered the prime movers responsible for the actual execution of frontside mechanics and speed development.

Session Two – Event Specific Instruction

The athletes will receive an advanced instructional model on Acceleration, Speed, and Power, along with event-specific instruction tailored to teaching skills that meet the demands of their event. This includes focusing on the technical aspects, biomechanics, and training principles relevant to sprinting and hurdling.

Clinic Sprint & Hurdle Overview Objectives:

  • This two-day Camp is a Speed and Hurdle Clinic, a learn-by-doing Clinic that will incorporate a group warm-up session, small groups to allow for more focused attention, and an introduction to a series of drills aimed at teaching the correct running and hurdle mechanics for optimum performance. Demonstrations during each session will introduce general, immediate, advanced, and specific training paradigms, as well as strategies to elevate participants’ skill set.
  • Upon completing this Speed & Hurdle Development Clinic, each participant will know the difference between Frontside and Backside Mechanics, learn drills that will be taught in a systematic sequence designed to reinforce proper Frontside Mechanics Drill Progressions to improve overall performance and force application while providing error correction feedback, which will turn an athlete’s weaknesses into strengths regardless of age or level of skill.
  • This Clinic is designed to introduce athletes and coaches to training paradigms that teach injury prevention, Frontside Mechanics, Speed, and Hurdle Development Programming.
  • This Clinic introduces athletes and coaches to training paradigms that teach injury prevention, Frontside Mechanics, Speed, and Hurdle training models for High Performance. In addition, this Clinic will offer a Q&A on College Readiness.
  • Coaches Registration and Education: Coaches who want to learn are welcome to register and shadow us on the track and on film throughout the camp. This learn-by-doing approach to Coaching Education involves practical, hands-on experience and reflection to develop skills and understanding in the moment. It is a coach-centered methodology in which participants actively engage with real-world practice scenarios to assist the Coach in understanding what is required for a high-performance culture. This process allows for increased engagement and a more motivating approach than traditional, lecture-based methods.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:10 staff to camper ratio
  • Grouped by: age, ability and experience
  • Evaluation: by coaching staff
  • Equipment Needed: Please bring your own discus and throwing shoes. Participants should bring at least one pair of broken in running shoes. Event shoes are recommended but not required. Please be sure to properly mark your equipment, so that it can be easily identified.

CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO BRING:

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

ALL ATHLETES:

  • Please bring your own discus and throwing shoes
  • Extra Athletic clothing
  • 1-2 pairs of broken in running shoes/ event shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Sunblock
  • Small gym bag/backpack

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

CAMP TUITION PAYMENTS

Full payment of camp fees must be completed by the first day of the month before camp. For example:

  • June Camps: final payment is due on May 1
  • July Camps: final payment is due on June 1
  • August Camps: final payment is due on July 1

Any camper with an unpaid balance 10 days before the start of their camp will forfeit all camp fees paid to date and be removed from the camp.

Your confirmation email shows your balance due and balance due date. Final payments can be made through the US Sports Camps Customer Portal or by phone at 1-800-645-3226.

BEHAVIOR POLICIES

We may ask campers who require 1×1 supervision, disrupt the camp experience, or threaten the safety of themselves or others to leave camp. Behaviors meriting expulsion include, but are not limited to: a cause or threat of violence, putting themselves or others in danger, possession of a weapon, possession or use of alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, drugs or illegal substance, robbery, damage to property, sexual misconduct or assault, harassment, hazing, racist remarks or acts, or intimidation. In those cases, we will contact a parent to pick up the child immediately. We do not issue refunds to campers who are asked to leave camp.
