Since 2015, Chau has been named the West Region Assistant Coach of the Year twice, most recently following the 2017-18 season. Also the 2015 winner, Chau has helped to rebuild the Pioneers tennis program into a regional and national contender and has also coached four different All-Americans, multiple NWC Player of the Year winners and numerous NWC All-Conference award winners. Academics has always been a priority for Chau and it shows with many of the Pioneers teams earning ITA All-Academic Team distinctions as well. A USPTA certified tennis professional and now part of the PNW USTA Coaches Commission as well, Chau continues to serve the tennis community on multiple fronts.
The Pioneers women's program has also flourished with Chau on the staff. The Pios qualified for the NWC Championship final on three separate occasions and took home the title in 2016, Lewis and Clark’s first since 1979. During his time at L&C, Chau helped lead the women’s tennis program to an all-time high national ranking of #18 and high regional ranking of #3.
A native to Portland, Chau competed in three years of varsity tennis at Lewis & Clark (his fourth year was spent overseas) and was named the captain and MVP his senior season in 2001. He was selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete All-American while playing for the Pioneers and graduated with Delta Mu Delta honors in Business and Economics. Outside of his team coaching duties, Chau runs Rip City Tennis, teaches classes and directs Nike Tennis Camps held at Lewis & Clark College.

Highlight of summer
July 13, 2018: This camp is a highlight of my son’s summer

We will definitely send her back next year
July 13, 2018: The first day my daughter was not super excited, she didn't understand all of the games and felt as though many of the kids knew things she had not yet been taught, she was a bit overwhelmed. After speaking with Coach Chau at dropoff the next morning, she came home that afternoon so enthusiastic and excited. The rest of the week she was just bubbling over with stories and explanations and really felt as though her game was improving. (She even got the award for "Most Improved") We will definitely send her back next year.

My son was finally challenged
September 01, 2018: My son was finally challenged. He actually admitted he learned something and said it was hard. Great!

July 18, 2017: Holden LOVES the Nike Camp at Lewis and Clark and wouldn't miss it - the amazing thing is he loves it as much now as a 14 y/o JTT player as he did when he was just a little guy starting - 4? 5? years ago. I have been impressed in the way the camp has grown with him, remained fun, competitive, it really is his favorite week of the summer, Jimmy has provided terrific continuity through the years and having a fresh supply of new Lewis and Clark players every summer helps mix it up.

August 8, 2017: As a parent, I appreciated Jimmy Chau organizing to start and end earlier due to the unusual heat. The dome can use more ventilation, but I liked that it was not in the sun.

July 29, 2017: The camper director was wonderful. My child was having a very difficult time because she was the least skilled child at camp. The director personally made sure that the games and activities matched her skill set. He made a small sessions for her to learn skills, he shortened activities when she appeared frusterated and checked in with her throughout the day that make sure she was comfortable. I'm blown away at the extent the director (jimmy) cared for one kid who really loves tennis, but just isn't very good. Thank you.

very attentive to each kid and offered good feedback
July 15, 2016: I thought my kids' tennis abilities improved by taking part in this camp. They enjoyed it overall. Jimmy was great. He was very attentive to each kid and offered good feedback to us as parents and skills-wise. They did a good job teaching my kids new things and helping them improve.

— Lauren K. Parent
July 14, 2015: Great experience! Good counselor-player ratio!
— Melissa R. Parent
Director & coaches were outstanding
July 10, 2015: Director & coaches were outstanding and the format and venue were good. The only reason it isn't something we would do again is that my son, at just-turned-16, was the oldest. However, the coaches were awesome at customizing some activities to be sure he got challenged while he was at camp. That was very appreciated.

Thanks for a great week!
July 10, 2015: The Lewis and Clark coaches were all great! Also was nice to have the swimming option at the end of the day. Thanks for a great week!
