"I am honored and excited to be named the next head tennis coach at UConn," said Glitz. "I want to thank David Benedict, Dominic Godi, and the entire hiring committee for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity. From the outset of the process, I was inspired by the leadership, vision, and passion that David has cultivated within the UConn athletic department. I am truly grateful and look forward to building upon the strong foundation and continued success of the program."

"We are thrilled to welcome Laura Glitz as our new women's tennis head coach," stated Benedict. "Laura brings an exceptional track record of success, having built Purdue into a nationally competitive program as their winningest coach in program history. Her ability to develop championship-caliber teams while maintaining the highest academic standards aligns perfectly with our program's values. Laura's proven expertise in recruiting, player development, and program building makes her the ideal leader to elevate our women's tennis program to new heights."

At Purdue, Glitz led the Boilermakers to all 10 of the program's national ranking, highlighted by a program-record #14th ranking in 2013. In 2019, Coach Glitz coached Silvia Ambrosio to #9 in the country, the highest singles ranking in program history. Glitz led Purdue to their first Big Ten title in program history in 2012. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, Glitz was named ITA Coach of the Year, Roberto Aspilliga was named Assistant Coach of the Year, and Lynda Xeopoleas took home Rookie of the Year honors. In her 18 years in West Lafayette, Glitz coached 58 academic All-BIG Ten student-athletes and 15 All Big Ten honorees. Under Glitz's direction, two Boilermakers were named ITA Most Improved Seniors and 39 received ITA Scholar Athlete honors.

Coach Glitz was the head coach of women's tennis at Cornell University from 2004-2007, after her time as assistant coach of the women's tennis program at Princeton University from 2000-2004.

Glitz put together an impressive professional playing career competing on the WTA and playing all four Grand Slam events (US Open, French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon). Throughout her career, Glitz cracked top-300 singles and top-90 doubles rankings. Glitz was ranked #1 nationally in the USPTA Women's Open Singles rankings in 1994 and was named USPTA/MSTA Outstanding Women's Open Player of the Year four times (1992, 1994, 1996, 2000).

Prior to her professional career, Glitz was a four-year scholarship player at Arizona State University. With the Sun Devils, Glitz received all-America honors and was team captain her junior and senior years.

SKILL LEVELS & GROUP PLACEMENT

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Participants are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during the clinic.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Directors at Nike Tennis Clinics will use to organize and group participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your athlete's experience:

  • Beginner: Players new to the game with little to no formal tennis instruction. They are still learning the fundamentals, focusing on basic skills and rules of the game. Typically play for recreation and have minimal match-play experience.

  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and sustain rallies with consistency. They are comfortable hitting medium-paced shots but may struggle with all strokes and directional control. Some may have participated in local tournaments and possess a UTR rating or are equivalent to a High School JV player.

  • Advanced: Players with dependable strokes and solid directional control. They demonstrate a strong competitive spirit, improved court coverage, and are developing strategies for both singles and doubles play. These players frequently compete in tournaments and have a USTA or UTR rating, or are equivalent to a High School Varsity player.
