Volleyball Passing Drills to Practice at Home

One of the basic skills in volleyball is centered around passing. Having successful volleyball practice whether that may be at home or in a gym, can be vital when trying to improve upon your skills. All you need is another person, a volleyball and ample space when training. Just because you don’t have access to a volleyball gym, doesn't mean you can't work on your volleyball skills. Check out these tips before attending a Nike Volleyball Camp this summer.

Tip #1

One person attacks consecutive balls over head and the other passes as many balls in a row as possible. This drills trains maintaining a low defensive position for an extended period of time, improves reaction time, and adapting to different attacks. As you become more advanced with ball control, the hitter can vary the offense by changing the type of attack, location, speed and distance.

Tip #2

Measure out the length of a volleyball court, mark out the half court line and place an object where your passing target is. Have the target serve 10 balls at you from the other baseline from right back, middle back, and left back, this way you can work on different passing angles.

Tip #3

Stand on a platform whether it’s bleachers, a chair, table etc. in order to simulate a higher contact point for a spike. If you don’t have access to a stable platform you may perform this drill just by standing on the ground. Mark out a digging target and base line so you have a point of reference. Make sure you place the target 5-10 feet off the net and in the middle of the court. Your goal should be to pass five passes higher than the hitter and within a few feet of your target.
