The Game of Volleyball in the Olympics

Volleyball Passing Accuracy

Volleyball is divided into two Olympic disciplines: volleyball and beach volleyball. Volleyball had its Olympic debut in 1964 in the Tokyo Games, while Beach Volleyball made its premiere in 1996 in Atlanta. In 1895, William G. Morgan introduced the sport called mintonette to the veteran members of his YMCA gym in Massachusetts.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) was founded in 1947 as a result of the sport's global development. Volleyball was designated as a non-Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee in 1949.Eight years later, on September 24, 1957, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Sofia recognized volleyball as an Olympic sport and the FIVB as the single global governing body for all volleyball disciplines. At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, volleyball was added as a medal sport for both men and women in 1961.

Similar to Nike Volleyball Camps, twelve teams are divided into two pools in both the men's and women's events, with games played in a round-robin format. Each pool's top four players advance to the knockout round.

The best-of-five sets format is used, with each set consisting of 25 points. When a match is tied after two sets, the final set is played to 15 points.

Three players are used at the net and three at the back of the court by each team. Backcourt players are not permitted to move to the net to block or spike.

The player in the specialist libero position, who wears a different colored jersey, is solely responsible for the defense.

Be sure to tune in to the men's tournament takes place from July 24 to August 7, while the women's competition takes place from July 25 to August 8. For more tips and articles like this be sure to check out our other Nike Volleyball Tips!
