4 Tips To Help Improve Passing Accuracy and To Score More Points in Volleyball

4 Tips Passing Accuracy

Whether you are an advanced or a beginner volleyball player, passing accuracy is always a skill to work on. Passers who can control the ball, and get it to the setter, are an asset on any team. Here are some volleyball passing tips taught at our Nike Volleyball Day Camps!

1. Lead your pass with your thumbs. Make sure the direction of your thumbs points where you want the ball to go.

2. Foot placement is key when passing.

  • When passing a ball that has power behind it, such as a serve or hit, make sure your feet are in position. Be stationary and plant your feet when passing.
  • When passing a slower paced ball, you need to continue to guide the ball until it reaches your setter. Continue moving your feet in a controlled motion, and move through your pass. In some cases, you'll need to shift your weight from your loaded back foot, forward, to assist the ball and help it to the setter box.

3. Your upper body needs to be the same in all passing situations- low and platform out in front. Let your feet do the work and react based on the speed of the ball you're about to pass. Keep those thumbs to target.

4. Be low and do not swing your arms. The ball has enough pace behind it, so you will only need to redirect it, with a little cushion.
