Three Tips to Accomplish your Volleyball Goals this Year

As you prepare to head into the new year, it is great to reevaluate and set new goals for yourself. January 1st can be a pivotal date to evaluate how hard you trained, assess the volleyball skills you need to improve, and set a plan of action for the new year. Check out the tips below to help you set goals for the new year and get ready for your upcoming games, practices, and Nike Volleyball Day Camp!

  1. Evaluate - Volleyball players that improve quickly, are players that evaluate how they’ve played in previous games, practices, and camps. Before you set your training goals for 2021, reflect back on what skills you’ve mastered and identify the skills you can improve on. Some of the best ways to evaluate your skills is by watching old game films or checking in with your coaches’ on their evaluation of how you played. Having a good understanding of your strengths and weaknesses provides a great foundation for you to set goals.

  2. Identify - If you only work on the skills you are already good at, you won’t be able to make big strides in your game. You want your game plan for your goals to be filled with the skills and techniques you want to improve on.

  3. Make a plan - Many players face challenges accomplishing their goals because they do not create a solid game plan. If you set goals without a plan, it is easy to make excuses along the journey of trying to reach them. Be specific when goal setting. How often will you practice your serving, hitting, and setting? What days and times will you practice? When will you condition or weight train? These are important questions to ask yourself when creating your plan.

Setting goals to improve your volleyball skills can seem daunting. When you set achievable goals and create a well thought out plan, improving as an athlete can become much easier. To help reach your goals, check out more volleyball tips!
