The Nike Track & Field Camp in San Jose offers athletes the opportunity to train within the Max Velocity Prep Track Club system, one of California’s premier sprint training programs.

Led by Coach Eddie Simpson and the Max Velocity Prep coaching staff, this camp focuses on technical development, speed mechanics, and long-term athlete development, while helping athletes develop acceleration, max velocity mechanics, and race execution.

Athletes train in a sprint-focused environment, with the option to focus on sprinting or incorporate dedicated hurdle training, all within a system built on consistency, precision, and championship-level preparation.

    Varsity Sprints & Jumps Coach | USATF Level 2 Certified

    Eddie Simpson is the Varsity Sprints and Jumps Coach at Archbishop Mitty High School, where he led the Monarchs women’s track program to its first CCS Championship in 20 years, followed by the first back-to-back CCS championships in program history.

    Varsity Sprints & Jumps Coach | USATF Level 2 Certified

    Eddie Simpson is the Varsity Sprints and Jumps Coach at Archbishop Mitty High School, where he led the Monarchs women’s track program to its first CCS Championship in 20 years, followed by the first back-to-back CCS championships in program history.

    With over eight years of youth club coaching experience, Coach Simpson serves as the Executive Director of MVP Track Club, a nationally recognized development program. Across his coaching career, he has produced 200+ Junior Olympians, including 100+ Junior Olympians with MVP, along with 20+ Junior Olympic All-Americans. In just the past three years, MVP athletes have earned five Junior Olympic All-American honors, as well as three Nike National All-American titles.

    Coach Simpson is USATF Level 2 certified in sprints, hurdles, and relays, specializing in speed mechanics, relay execution, and long-term athlete development. His coaching approach emphasizes technical excellence, consistency, and competitive readiness at the championship level.

    He studied Computer Science at Saint Mary’s College of California, applying an analytical and data-driven lens to training design and performance optimization.

    Ryan Oden is the Head Women’s Track & Field Coach at Archbishop Mitty High School and the Director of Operations for Max Velocity Prep Youth Track Club.

    Head Women’s Track & Field Coach | USATF Level 2 Certified (Sprints & Hurdles)

    Ryan Oden is the Head Women’s Track & Field Coach at Archbishop Mitty High School and the Director of Operations for Max Velocity Prep Youth Track Club.

    At Archbishop Mitty, Coach Oden has led the women’s program to back-to-back CCS Section Championships (2024 & 2025) and has coached multiple CCS champions in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 110m hurdles. His impact has helped establish Mitty as one of the region’s premier sprint and hurdle programs.

    With Max Velocity Prep, Coach Oden works with both youth and high school athletes, guiding them to USATF All-American honors in sprint hurdles and high jump. His primary focus is on sprint and hurdle development, with deep expertise in hurdle mechanics, acceleration and max-velocity development, rhythm modeling, and technical consistency under competition stress.

    Coach Oden is USATF Level 2 Certified in Sprints & Hurdles and NFHS Certified. His coaching philosophy centers on long-term athlete development, biomechanical efficiency, and preparing athletes to perform at their best in championship environments.

    Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

    Michelle Toy embarked on her athletic journey at the early age of four, where her love for sports was ignited in her hometown of Kauai, Hawaii. This early start in the world of sports played a pivotal role in shaping her dreams of pursuing a career in athletics.

    Coach Toy pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, where she delved into the realms of Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Sciences. She earned both a bachelor's and master's degree, and has dedicated the last 14 years to making a significant impact within the San Jose. CA sports community. Her roles as a mentor and trainer are driven by a relentless commitment to guiding and nurturing athletes and it has not gone unnoticed. She was named the 2023 California State Coach of the Year by the NHSSCA. She was the first female in the state of California to receive that award.

    In 2024, Coach Toy founded "Toy Soldier Training", a venture driven by her profound desire to shape the futures of young athletes. Her innate ability to connect with athletes and foster a welcoming and positive training environment is what truly defines her approach. Her sessions are infused with an infectious energy that inspires and empowers those she trains. She trains athletes from 6 years old to the pro level. Coach Toy's mission is to help build a solid foundation of speed and strength for the next generation of athletes.

    Andrea Tu’ua is the Head Track & Field Coach at Sobrato High School and a former Fresno State Bulldog sprinter. A lifelong participant in the sport, she began competing in track and field as a youth athlete and continued through the collegiate level. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, bringing both academic and experiential insight into athlete development.

CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO BRING:

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

ALL CAMPERS:

  • Extra Athletic clothing
  • 1-2 pairs of broken in running shoes/ event spikes/shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Sunblock
  • Packed snack
  • Small gym bag/backpack

SHOT PUT AND DISCUS CAMPERS:

  • Must bring own implements (Shot and/or Discus)

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

CAMP TUITION PAYMENTS

Full payment of camp fees must be completed by the first day of the month before camp. For example:

  • June Camps: final payment is due on May 1
  • July Camps: final payment is due on June 1
  • August Camps: final payment is due on July 1

Any camper with an unpaid balance 10 days before the start of their camp will forfeit all camp fees paid to date and be removed from the camp.

Your confirmation email shows your balance due and balance due date. Final payments can be made through the US Sports Camps Customer Portal or by phone at 1-800-645-3226.
