Train with purpose and elevate your performance at the Track & Field Camp at the University of Maryland - College Park, led by Olympians and world-class coaches. This immersive experience is designed to help athletes build the discipline, structure, and confidence needed to reach their peak potential.

Campers will engage in daily technical skill development, performance training assessments and workouts, and mental skills sessions that translate directly to competition success. This camp is offered to athletes of all abilities specializing in all track & field events (Sprints/ Jumps/ Distance/ Throws)

  • Valmon Headshot

    Andrew Valmon

    Camp Director, Head Track & Field Coach University of Maryland

    Andrew Valmon is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and current World Record holder in the 4x400m Relay. He has served at the helm of the Maryland Track & Field program since 2003. In addition to his leadership and mentorship within the Maryland program, Valmon has served key roles within the USATF organization. His vast experiences at the professional and collegiate level bring an elevated approach to his coaching. Above all, Valmon values development of individuals and his approach involves a deep investment into the personal success of everyone he works with. He especially enjoys working with youth athletes to develop their confidence in the sport and in life.

    Kibwé Johnson

    Assistant Coach - Throws, University of Maryland

    The California native, Kibwé Johnson established himself as one of the nation’s best hammer throwers of all time by being ranked first or second for over a decade. In that time, he secured 5 US titles, 4 US runner-up, and numerous US national teams. He retired in 2017 after his last World Championship appearance.

    Assistant Coach - Throws, University of Maryland

    Kibwé directly credits his successes as an athlete and coach to his mentors. He’s personally worked with some of the most well regarded coaches in the US and internationally in Don Babbitt, Bob McKay, Stuart Togher, 4x Olympian Jud Logan, and lastly Dr. Anatoliy Bondarchuk.

    Kibwé’s winning toss and personal best of 80.31m/263’5” at the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships was the best mark by an American hammer thrower in over a decade, making him only the fourth American to ever to go beyond the mythical 80-meter line. Additionally, his 2012 Olympic Final appearance was the first one by an American in 16 years.

    Boasting a personal best of 65.11m/213’6” in discus, and 25.12m/82’5” in weight throw, Kibwé is the most versatile throws athlete of all time.

    Having had success with athletes of all ages, most recently at a similar style boarding school in Florida, Kibwé’s coaching philosophy is built on communication and cites his experiences as a husband and father with learning how to become more effective as a coach.

    Danielle Siebert

    Associate Head Track & Field Coach University of Maryland 

    Danielle Siebert has spent the past 15+ years coaching the mid distance and distance athletes at Maryland. As a proud alumna and devoted coaching staff member, she has pride in each athlete that steps foot on campus. Siebert has also spent time on the elite level working as a team USA Manager for two Olympic teams (Tokyo 2020 & Paris 2024) as well as other stints at the World Championships, World U20 Championships, and the Pan Am Juniors.

    Dezerea Moore

    Assistant Track & Field Coach - University of Maryland

    Dezerea (Bryant) Moore is a two time NCAA Champion in the 200m dash which is an accolade she achieved during her time as an All American at the University of Kentucky (2014, 2015). She continued to represent team USA on the biggest stage at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Moore joined the Maryland coaching staff in 2024 and has specialized in the short sprint event areas. She is excited to pass along her expertise to all levels of athletes.

    Lynn Smith

    Assistant Track & Field Coach - University of Maryland

    Lynn Smith is a tenured coach at the NCAA level who also boasts career experience working with professional athletes. With over 20 years of coaching experience, Smith specializes in the jumps and multi events. He also had the honor of serving on several international team staffs for Team USA including the 2023 and 2019 Pan Am Games.

  • Ages: 12-17
  • Gender: Co-ed

  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
  • Check-in: 15 minutes prior to camp start time

  • Lunch: Campers should bring their own lunch and snacks

This camp is open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:10 staff to camper ratio
  • Grouped by: age, ability and experience
  • Evaluation: by coaching staff
  • Equipment Needed: Campers should bring at least one pair of broken in running shoes. Event shoes/spikes are recommended but not required. Please be sure to properly mark your equipment, so that it can be easily identified.

CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO BRING:

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

ALL CAMPERS:

  • Extra Athletic clothing
  • 1-2 pairs of broken in running shoes/ event spikes
  • Non-running shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Sunblock
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Small gym bag/backpack
  • Multi Events Spikes

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

CAMP TUITION PAYMENTS

Full payment of camp fees must be completed by the first day of the month before camp. For example:

  • June Camps: final payment is due on May 1
  • July Camps: final payment is due on June 1
  • August Camps: final payment is due on July 1

Any camper with an unpaid balance 10 days before the start of their camp will forfeit all camp fees paid to date and be removed from the camp.

Your confirmation email shows your balance due and balance due date. Final payments can be made through the US Sports Camps Customer Portal or by phone at 1-800-645-3226.
