Nichole "Nicky" Cannon was named head coach of the Titans Women's Volleyball program on Feb. 4, 2025. Cannon became the ninth head coach in program history.

Cannon returns to Cal State Fullerton after spending the last three seasons as head coach of UC Riverside's women's volleyball program. In 2024, Cannon led UC Riverside to its first 10-win season since 2017, highlighted by the program's first-ever win over Hawai'i. She capped off a Senior Night victory over UC Santa Barbara, and added an impressive fifth set win over Long Beach State on a 4-0 scoring run that sealed the win. She also guided newcomer Trinity Sheridan to an All-Big West Second Team honor.

Cannon led the Highlanders to a 3-2 victory over UC San Diego in her debut as head coach on September 29, 2022. She reshaped Highlander Volleyball by bringing in an experienced setter, Taylor Hifo, who recorded her 500th career assist and the Big West's first triple double since 2018. Cannon helped guide Hifo to an All-Conference Honorable Mention and Bella Scarlett to multiple All-Tournament awards.

In 2023, Cannon achieved the program's most conference victories since 2015 (5) and highest conference finish since 2019 (8th), while leading Mylei Vargas-Deason to an All-Big West Honorable Mention selection.

She began her three-year career with Titans Athletics in 2019 as an assistant coach, overseeing Fullerton's outside hitters, defensive strategy and recruiting. In her first year, the Titans finished the season with a 12-15 overall record, collecting four conference victories. This marked the most total wins for the program since 2012 and most conference wins since 2013.

Cannon coached numerous Titans to All-Big West awards in 2019, including Julia Crawford, whose rookie campaign marked the most kills (368) and total points (398.5) by a Titan since the 2014 season. Cannon's student-athlete development also left an imprint on 2019 Big West Honorable Mention honoree Savahna Costello, who ranked in the NCAA's top 20 with 5.31 digs per set. Under Cannon's defensive leadership, the 2019 Titans ranked in the top 25 nationally with 17.44 digs per set.

Before her stint with the Titans, Cannon served three years as an assistant coach for both indoor and beach volleyball at Cypress Community College. During her three years as assistant coach, she helped Nancy Welliver win an indoor and two beach conference championships, as well as make two state tournament appearances.

Cannon also served as Athletics Director and Head Volleyball Coach at Christ Academy High School in Wichita Falls, Texas from 2013-2015. While in Texas, Cannon also co-founded Zone-In Volleyball Academy (ZIVA), where she was the head coach for the 14's and 18's national team and club director from 2012-2019.

Cannon was also awarded the 2020 Diversity Award by the American Volleyball Coaches and was a keynote speaker at the 2020 and 2021 AVCA Volleyball Convention.

She graduated from Colgate University where she was a Patriot League All-Conference pitcher. She obtained her master's degree in physical education at Azusa Pacific and resides in La Palma with her husband, Jerron, and two daughters, Rishae and Syriah.

    Co-Director

Kenny Ma joins Cal State Fullerton as an assistant coach for Titans Women's Volleyball in March 2015.

Ma joins the Titans after a successful program record-breaking 2024 season at UC Riverside under Nicky Cannon, guiding the Highlanders to its highest win total since 2017 (20) and its best preseason record since 2018.

He was instrumental in the team securing its first-ever victory over the Big West Tournament Champions, the University of Hawaii, as well as a five-set win against Long Beach State and a four-set triumph over defending conference champions, UC Santa Barbara.

At UC Riverside, Ma was responsible for training blockers and setters, and also led in-game strategic adjustments, helping the team compete at a high level against some of the conference’s best programs.

Before his time in the inland empire, Ma was an assistant coach at Weber State, where he helped lead the Wildcats to an in-season Corpus Christi Tournament title, a Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. He coached multiple standout athletes, including two First Team All-Big Sky selections, the Big Sky All-Tournament MVP, and the conference’s Libero of the Year.

A Southern California native, Ma has an extensive coaching background at multiple levels. Before Weber State, he served as the head coach for women's indoor, women’s beach, and men’s beach volleyball at Westcliff University in Irvine. His leadership earned him both Westcliff University Coach of the Year and Cal Pac Conference Coach of the Year honors for his success with the beach volleyball programs.

At Westcliff, Ma developed numerous high-achieving student-athletes, coaching the Cal Pac Conference Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and an NAIA All-American. His men’s beach team made history by winning the first-ever AVCA Men’s Collegiate Beach Volleyball National Championship and the IVC Men’s Collegiate Beach Volleyball League title, while the women’s beach program secured the California Pacific Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships, reaching the NAIA National Tournament semifinals.

Since 2017, Ma has been the head coach of a top team at Seal Beach Volleyball Club & now Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, where his teams have consistently qualified for the Junior National Championships, winning two gold medals and two silver medals at Junior National Qualifiers.

As a player, Ma competed at Golden West College in Huntington Beach before a career-ending injury. He began his volleyball journey at Westminster High School, where he first developed his passion for the game.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We cannot offer scholarships due to NCAA regulations. Our affiliation with NCAA coaches and schools puts us in a position where any scholarship money can be seen as an inducement to a future collegiate athlete. This puts our coaches and our host universities in jeopardy of damaging their status with the NCAA and incurring penalties at the hands of their organizing body.

Camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender.
