at Nike Baseball Camps

Join us this summer for the Nike Baseball Camp at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee! This new camp offers a fun and engaging opportunity for young athletes to develop their baseball skills in a positive and instruction-focused environment. The camp will run July 13–16 from 9:00am–3:00pm and is open to boys ages 7–14. Designed for beginner and intermediate players, this camp welcomes athletes of all abilities who are eager to learn, improve, and enjoy the game.

Throughout the week, campers will train with experienced coaches and players who are passionate about teaching the fundamentals of baseball. Daily instruction will include skill development in hitting, pitching, catching, infield and outfield play, baserunning, and defensive fundamentals. Campers will work through drills and position-specific instruction that focuses on proper mechanics, improving baseball IQ, and building confidence on the field.

In addition to skill development, campers will take part in games, competitions, and fun challenge-based activities designed to reinforce teamwork, toughness, and a competitive spirit. Coaches will emphasize situational awareness, smart decision-making, and competing with the right attitude while creating an energetic and supportive atmosphere.

The Nike Baseball Camp at Union University is built to help players grow both as athletes and teammates. Whether your child is just beginning their baseball journey or looking to sharpen their skills, this camp provides a fun and encouraging environment where players can improve, build confidence, and develop a passion for the game

    Camp Director

    Head Coach Jess Trask begins his fourth season as the skipper for the Lions in the 2026 campaign. In his first year at the helm, the Lions posted a 40-win season while earning a berth to the NAIA tournament as the Mid-South Conference Tournament runners-up. He saw one player honored as a first-team All-American.

    Coach Trask has spent four seasons working with FHU infielders and baserunners. His tutelage was well-received, as over those four years the Lions saw three Gold Glove winners across the diamond while leading the Mid-South Conference in fielding percentage in 2022. The Lions' .972 fielding percentage was also the sixth-best mark in the NAIA. On the basepaths, his runners swiped more bases than any team in the MSC, while ranking eighth nationally with 145 steals.

    After playing every defensive position besides shortstop and pitcher for Lewis and Clark (Ill.) Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin, Coach Trask spent four years as an assistant at LCCC before his first trip to Henderson. Trask spent two years as the Lions' graduate assistant, helping the team to their first appearance in the NAIA opening round. After spending one season as the assistant at Bethany (Kan.) College, the Jerseyville, Illinois native returned to Freed-Hardeman where he assisted the team to three berths in the NAIA opening round including one trip to the Avista NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. Trask also helped lead Freed-Hardeman to regular-season championships in both the MSC and the American Midwest Conference, with an AMC tournament champion trophy.

    Trask holds an undergraduate degree in secondary education from the University of Tennessee at Martin where he graduated in 2011. In 2017, he graduated with a master's degree in education from Freed-Hardeman University.

    Trask is married to Nicole and has two daughters, Piper and Landry, and one son - Hudson.

    Casey McGehee was named head coach of the Union University baseball program in June 2022. He joined Union after a lengthy playing career in both Major League Baseball and in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The 2025 season will be McGehee's third at Union. His career record is 31-60 (.341).

    In 2023, McGehee's first season as head coach, the team compiled a 14-31 record. In the first home series of the year, Union took two of three from the eventual GSC champion West Florida.

    McGehee's professional playing career started in 2003 as a tenth-round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs. He played locally in Jackson for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, a Double-A affiliate of the Cubs. He was then called up and played nine games with the Cubs in 2008. After being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, McGehee finished fifth in the voting for the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year and was named the NL Rookie of the Month once. In 2010, McGehee was named the Milwaukee Brewers Team MVP and earned the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association's Heart and Hustle Award. He played with the Brewers from 2009-2011. In 2012, he played for both the Pittsburg Pirates and New York Yankees.

    He left MLB for one season and played in the NPB in Japan in 2013, leading his team to the NPB Championship. He returned to MLB in 2014 with Miami Marlins. He was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year and was also a finalist in the fan vote for the final spot in the MLB All-Star Game that season. He played for the Marlins, San Francisco Giants, and Detroit Tigers over the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He finished his playing career back in the NPB where he set the league record for doubles in 2017 and was named a NPB All-Star in 2018.

    McGehee finished an eight-year major league career with a .258 average, 67 home runs, 380 RBI, 141 doubles, 721 hits, and 285 runs. He recorded season-highs with a .301 average in 2009, and 23 home runs and 104 RBI in 2010, both seasons with the Brewers. His comeback season in 2014 included a .287 average with 76 RBI and 29 doubles with the Marlins.

    McGehee played college baseball at Fresno State University where he was a freshman All-American. He was named first team All-WAC in 2002 and second team All-WAC in 2003. He also earned a spot on the Fresno State Baseball Wall of Fame. He went to Soquel High School where he lettered four seasons on the baseball team.

    McGehee and his wife Sarah have called Jackson, Tennessee home since their wedding in 2005. They have two children, a son Mack and a daughter Cooper.

Camp Details

Instruction will focus primarily on hitting, fielding, base-running, and game situations. You can expect high demand for these first come first serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early.

  • Check-In: Begins 30 minutes prior to the camp start time. Parking will be located in the back of the school off of Stonehill and Blue Lantern.
  • Meals: Lunch is not provided. Please bring a snack/lunch to camp each day.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

TRAVEL

Nike Baseball Camps does not provide transportation from airports, train stations or bus depots. If you have a child flying to camp, please arrange a shuttle or taxi service.

If you have a team or group of 5 or more campers registering for the same camp, each camper may be eligible for a discount.
