In 2019, his first year with the Lions, Cornacchione helped lead a program that secured 12 wins in 2018 to a then school record 26-wins and an appearance in the Sooner Athletic Conference semi-finals.

A shortened 2020 season would see the Lions secure their first positive winning percentage in school history as they finished their season with an 18-10 mark.

In 2021, the Lions would again top their all-time wins mark, securing 29 victories, their best finish in conference play, and a victory in the SAC tournament.

2022 would again be a record setting year for SAGU Baseball as the Lions would top their previous best wins mark, capturing 36 victories. The Lions would finish conference play at 16-8, a third place finish in league play, and the first winning season for the program in the SAC. The 2022 squad would place an all-time best 5 players on the Sooner Athletic All-Conference team. The Lions season would culminate as the number 1 seed in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kansas City, where they would secure a 4th place finish.

Prior to SAGU, Cornacchione served 9 seasons as head baseball coach at Nyack College, a NCAA DII baseball program just north of New York City. During his tenure, the Warriors appeared in the conference tournament 5 times: 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, & 2018.

Cornacchione has received several honors throughout his career, twice receiving the honor of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year (2012, 2014), NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year (2012), and has also received the institutional coaching award as Nyack College Coach of the Year twice (2014, 2016). The Warriors have also been selected as the recipient of the CACC Sportsmanship award on three occasions under Cornacchione (2011,2013,2014) an award voted on by the coaches within the CACC.

In 2012, Nyack College completed the 2nd biggest turnaround nationally in NCAA Division II, moving from a 3-35 team in 2011 to a 26 win team in one years time. The 2012 team would lead the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in runs scored, total hits, on-base percentage, batting average, and team defense. The Warriors also established themselves as one of the fastest teams in the nation, their 181 stolen bases ranking 2nd nationally in NCAA Division II.

Before arriving at Nyack, Cornacchione spent two years Bloomfield College, in Bloomfield, NJ, where he served as Assistant Head Baseball Coach and Sports Information Director within the athletic department.

Cornacchione entered the coaching ranks at his alma mater, spending two years as an assistant coach at Geneva College. During his time there, he helped lead the Golden Tornadoes to a 2007 AMC North Division regular season title, Geneva's only AMC title in school history.

As a 3-year starter at Geneva College, he made starts for the Golden Tornadoes at 6 different positions including catcher, pitcher, third base, outfield, and designated hitter. In 2004 he was named a team captain and also received AMC All-Conference Honorable Mention, helping the Tornadoes to their first American Mideast Conference playoff appearance in school history, and a 4th place finish at the NCCAA World Series.

Cornacchione holds a bachelor's in Elementary Education from Geneva College (PA) and a Master's degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sports Administration from Montclair State University (NJ).

Matt and his wife Makayla were married in 2011, and have two sons: Pierce and Kade. Their family resides in Waxahachie.
