AJ Acosta

AJ Acosta has a long storied career spanning his high school years as national champion and won the 2005 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships to his years as an Oregon runner, an eight time All American and 2x US Olympic Trial participant. Acosta currently resides in Alameda where he coaches at Bishop O'Dowd High School.

Acosta was a 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials competitor in the 1,500 meters and two-time member of Oregon’s NCAA Champion distance medley relay team. Matched Olympic Gold Medalist Joaquim Cruz's hallowed school record in the 1,500 meters, 3:36.48. Acosta followed that with a runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters at the 2010 NCAA Championships. he is an eight time All-American, multiple time USA Championship competitor in the 1,500 meters. Coach had a terrific 2007-08 season that saw him break the legendary Steve Prefontaine’s school record for the indoor mile (3:58.52) and earn a pair of All-American awards (indoor mile, outdoor 1,500 meters). Also was Oregon's first runner to compete in both NCAA indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 events the same year. He ran the fastest indoor mile nationally among collegiate freshmen in 2007 (4:00.37). Also a two-time U.S. junior champion in outdoor 1,500 meters, only the third ever to repeat the feat in this event. Boasts personal bests of 3:53.76 for the mile (3:36.41 for 1500m), and 13:35 for the 5000m.
