Alex Hoover

Alex Hoover came to Menlo after spending one season as the Interim Head Coach at Mission Prep High School in San Luis Obispo, where he led the Royals to the CIF Central Section Division IV Quarterfinals. Prior to that role, Hoover spent two seasons (2018-19) with Cal State San Bernardino and three seasons (2015-17) at Cal State Bakersfield as the team’s Lead Assistant Coach.

At San Bernardino, Hoover's role included serving as the team's recruiting coordinator, where he was instrumental in bringing in Gabe Chavez, the program's first All-American in nearly a decade. In the three years that Hoover was on staff at Bakersfield, the Roadrunners won 88 games, won the WAC Tournament Title, and earned a National Tournament Berth in 2015. Bakersfield had four MLB draft picks while Hoover served as an assistant, two of which he recruited while serving as the team's recruiting coordinator. He also oversaw the process of raising the team's GPA, which went from a 2.6 to a 2.9 in his three years with the program.

Prior to his time as a lead assistant, Coach Hoover spent four seasons (2011-14) as an assistant coach at baseball powerhouse Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While on staff at SLO, the Mustangs totaled 123 wins, the most of any baseball program in the state of California, won the 2014 Big West Title, and earned two NCAA Regional Berths. Hoover also spent time as an assistant coach for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League, helping lead them to two NBC World Series Championships. He was on staff at Santa Barbara City College from 2007 to 2010, and at the University of the Pacific in 2006. Hoover played collegiately at Santa Barbara City College and San Francisco State. He graduated from SF State in 2006.
