No stranger to the playing surface or sidelines for Bethune-Cookman University, Allen Suber returned to BCU in a new role for the 2017 season. The former All-MEAC quarterback – and one of the best in program history under center for the Wildcats, served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for BCU. Additionally, he was the associate head coach for the 'Cats.

Overall, 2019 will be Suber’s fifth year with BCU, having spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons, respectfully, with the Wildcats under former head coach Brian Jenkins.
In 2017, Suber developed a balanced offensive attack and saw five offensive Wildcats earn postseason All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors, as well as placekicker Uriel Hernandez's spot on the First Team. Offensive lineman Dwayne Brown took home First Team honors, while fellow lineman Chris Adams drew a spot on the Second Team. Running back Jamaruz Thompkins, lineman Phillip Norman, and quarterback Larry Brihm gained a nod to the Third Team.
The BCU offense was fifth in total offense (341.2 yds), second in time of possession (30:59) and tops in red zone offense (.857) and fourth down conversions (.571).
Brihm finished the season on a high-note in helping the Wildcats win their last four and six of last seven games. His five touchdowns on Senior Day against Morgan State tied a BCU single-game record, and he rushed in two fourth quarter touchdowns, including the game-winner, to defeat rival Florida A&M for the seventh consecutive year in the Florida Blue Florida Classic. He ended the season with a pair of MEAC Offensive Player of the Week awards (Sept. 11, Nov. 6). He played and started in all 11 games under center as the primary signal caller for the Cats, finishing fourth in the MEAC in passing yards per game (200.9) and fifth in pass efficiency (133.0). In total offense, Brihm would place himself fourth in the league with 211.5 yards per game in that category, as well as tied for eighth in total scoring (36 points).
Brihm and Norman have continued their playing careers in the Canadian Football League with Calgary and British Columbia, respectively.
Suber utilized a deep receiving corp. that helped the Wildcats finished third in completion percentage (59%) and passing yardage (215.3). BCU was fourth in passing efficiency (124.82), and led the MEAC in red zone offense by scoring close to 86% of its trips. A balanced group saw a different leader in the main three receiving categories, as Frank Brown led the Wildcats with four scores, Jawill Davis averaged 43.2 yards per-game, and Keavon Mitchell averaged just under four catches per-game. BCU produced three 100-reception receivers with Mitchell (104), Brown (138) and Davis (160).
Davis was 11th in the MEAC with an average of 13.19 yards per-catch, and after graduating from BCU signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants.
Prior to his arrival to Daytona Beach in the spring, Suber spent two seasons at Alabama State University, where he served as assistant head coach and worked primarily with wide receivers. Under Head Coach Brian Jenkins and the Hornets program, he helped the Hornets in an “acting head coach” role and 56-24 victory over Mississippi Valley State (Oct. 15) during the 2016 season, while Jenkins served a mandatory one-game suspension handed down to him by the NCAA.
Prior to his stint at Alabama State, Suber worked for three years (2012-14) at the University of Massachusetts. During his first season in Amherst, five (5) Minutemen totaled 200 or more receiving yards on the year in 2013, including Deion Walker’s 667-yard, three touchdown campaign. With guidance from Suber, Walker improved his receiving totals during MAC competition to finish with the fifth-most yards throughout the MAC during league play. Alan Williams also totaled career numbers under Suber’s tutelage in 2012, securing 42 passes for 438 yards, with four going for TDs.
Along with his college coaching experience at his alma mater of then-named Bethune-Cookman College, Suber played three seasons in the National Football League and NFL Europe before beginning his collegiate coaching career.
At Bethune-Cookman, Suber spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach under Brian Jenkins from 2010-11. During the early months of 2011, Suber was promoted by Jenkins to the role of Recruiting Coordinator. In his time coaching the Wildcats, he oversaw a group that helped to make BCU among one of the top offensive teams in the nation, with wide receivers hauling in 146 passes for 2,191 yards, as the unit was a major contributing factor in returning a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship trophy to BCU for the first time since Suber was in the backfield in 2002.
Suber’s quarterback prowess led one of the greatest eras of BCU from 1999-2003, including the 2002 MEAC title team that finished 11-2, including the program’s first and second appearances in the NCAA I-AA playoffs (now known as Football Championship Subdivision), and consecutive victories over Florida A&M – featuring the 2003 triumph where Suber rallied the Wildcats from a 28-10 halftime deficit and hit Eric Weems, now with the Tennessee Titans, for a late touchdown in a thrilling 39-35 victory.
He was the 2003 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award. Suber is listed as second all-time for the Wildcats in career rushing yards (2,897) and touchdowns (39). Additionally, he was a two-time All-American – earning the accolades as a junior (2002) and senior (2003), respectively.
Suber was on the rosters of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans before being allocated to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.
His first coaching opportunity came in 2006, when he oversaw BCU quarterbacks in spring drills. He also participated in a 2007 scouting internship with the Jaguars.
As an offensive coordinator for Treasure Coast High School, Suber helped a young program coming off a 3-17 record its first two seasons into a squad that won its district and made its first state playoff appearance.
