Clayton Schmitt

The 2017 season marked the beginning of Clayton Schmitt's second stint as an assistant coach for the Emory men's soccer team.

Clayton rejoined the Eagles' program after spending the 2014-2016 campaigns at Oglethorpe University, where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped the Stormy Petrels to an overall record of 24-20-7 during those three seasons, which included 2015 and 2016 Southern Athletic Association regular-season titles.

Schmitt also has been the head coach of the women's program at Holy Innocents High School in Atlanta since December of 2014, directing his teams to a pair of semifinal apperances in the Class AA State Championships.

Schmitt's first go-around as an assistant at Emory came from June 2011 through April of 2014. During his tenure, he helped the Eagles to an overall slate of 31-20-4, which included a 2012 University Athletic Association co-championship and a second-round apperance in the NCAA Tournament. His primary responsibilites entered around coaching the Emory goalkeepers while assisting in other areas of the program.

Clayton also is the Director of Coaches for the Southern Soccer Academy's Northside (Buckhead) branch in Atlanta, overseeing the program's start to now having 30 competitive teams and taking his U15 Girls Athena team to the 2017 State Cup tournament.

He was formerly the Varsity Boys and Girls Head Coach at the Weber School in Sandy Springs. During his time at the Weber School, Clayton guided the girls’ team to two GISA Quarterfinal berths and the boys’ team to GISA Semifinal and Quarterfinal berths. In addition, he has coached seven All-State players (five boys and two girls). From 2011-2012 he was the Varsity Girls Head Coach at North Springs High School, and led the team to its first region tournament in five years, coaching two players to all-region honors.

Clayton is a former goalkeeper from Mercer University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business in 2006. He also earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia State University in 2008. He holds the NSCAA Premier, Advanced National, and National Diplomas, and, as well as the National Goalkeeping Diploma, and is in the teaching pool for NSCAA courses in Georgia.
