Allison Wigand was named head coach of the Mitchell College softball team in January 2015.

Wigand will make her collegiate head coaching debut with the Mariners. The former Division I third baseman will draw from her experiences as both a player and clinician while heading the Mitchell program.

Wigand previously worked in the athletic department at Providence College where she gained valuable experience in multiple areas of athletic administration, as well as serving in a support role for the softball program. She then accepted a position at Bryant University and worked specifically in the area of recruiting for the college.

In addition, Wigand has served in multiple roles throughout the years as a softball camp clinician and instructor at prominent area camps. She has instructed various ages and levels of softball ability and formed connections with numerous high school and college coaches from all divisions around the country.

"We are extremely excited for Allison to join our Mitchell family," said AD Maureen White. "We feel that her softball background and knowledge will bolster the competiveness of the program on the field, and her experience as a college recruiter will add tremendously to our recruiting efforts."

Wigand was a four-year letterwinner on the softball team at Fairfield University where she started all but three of 202 career games. As a senior in 2012, she batted .322 in the regular season and drove in a team-high 35 runs en route to earning all-conference first team honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. She was also a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection and was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team in 2012.

During Wigand's career at Fairfield, the Stags posted 107 victories and went 43-21 in league play while winning a pair of MACC regular season titles (2009, 2011). The squad qualified for the MAAC Championship three times during her tenure and advanced to the title round in both 2011 and 2012.

A native of Oceanside, N.Y., Wigand was a four-year starter on both the softball and women's soccer teams at Oceanside High School. As a senior she led the softball team to the Nassau County championship for the first time in more than a decade.

Wigand graduated from Fairfield in 2012 with a degree in mathematics and completed her MBA at Providence College in 2014.
