Amani walker

Former professional soccer player, Amani Walker, has been a part of San Diego’s soccer community for 25 years. He has coached everything from youth to college soccer and is in his second year as boy’s soccer program director at Francis Parker School.

A San Diego native, Amani attended Francis Parker, before going on to play four years of college soccer at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). A four year starter, he was a part of the most successful UCI men’s soccer team in 2008; the 15 win team earned its first ever Big West Conference Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament. The team would continue to earn Big West titles and tournament berths in Amani's junior and senior years. He was named to the All-Big West first team and led his team in goals as a junior in 2009, while as a senior in 2010, he was named to the NSCAA All-Far West Region first team and the All-Big West first-team. He was the Big West Co-Offensive Player of the Year 2010, and was voted as one of TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 20 Players to Watch. He finished his college career as UCI's all-time leader in games played with 85, and ranks third on the all-time goal scorers list with 27 goals.

During his college years, Amani made an appearance for the Jamaica U-20 national team versus Canada in 2009.

Amani was invited to the 2011 Adidas Major League Soccer Combine, and was drafted with the 9th overall pick of the MLS Supplemental Draft by Chicago Fire. He subsequently signed his first professional contract with the Minnesota Stars FC (now MN United FC) of the North American Soccer League (NASL). In 2011, the team won the NASL Championship in the league’s inaugural season. The team continued its success into 2012, reaching the fourth round of the Open Cup, and once again, making it to the NASL final. Amani led the team in goals with 11, including a goal in the final.

Amani’s next two contracts were in Tampa Bay and Orange County, for the Rowdies and Blues, respectively. After a second place table finish in Tampa, he won the Western Conference title with the Blues in 2015. He contributed 5 goals in just over 20 appearances between the two clubs, but unfortunately two ACL surgeries shortened his stints with both clubs. He was finally able to play in front of his home town in 2017 and 2018 with ASC San Diego, winning the Golden Boot scoring 20 goals in his first year with the club.

Amani made his return to Parker as head middle school and assistant varsity coach in 2012. He took over as head coach for the 2019-20 season. The team ended with a 15-4-2 (7-1-2) record, its first league title in four years, and first CIF final appearance since 2012.
