Anthony Izzio

Anthony Izzio joins the Bucs in the summer of 2020 by way of Tulane University, Pearl River Community College, and East Mississippi Community College. He will take over responsibilities for working with the Buccaneer baseball pitching staff.

Izzio spent one season with the Green Wave after joining the Tulane baseball program in July 2019. During the shortened season, he was responsible for handling the day-to-day operations for the outfielders as well as handling batting practice responsibilities.

The Green Wave boasted a 15-2 overall record prior to the season being called with standout performances from outfielder Ty Johnson (.362 batting avg, nine extra base hits) and Hudson Haskin (.333 batting average, team-high six doubles) helping pace Tulane at the plate. Haskin would go on to become the highest drafted outfielder in Tulane baseball history after being taken in the second-round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

Prior to his time at Tulane, Izzio served three seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi.

During his time with the Wildcats, Izzio helped PRCC earn three consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association D-II regional appearances, with an appearance in the NJCAA D-II World Series in 2019. PRCC won 107 total games over that timeframe - 28 games in his first season, 38 in his second season and 41 last year.

Perfect Game recognized Izzio and PRCC's recruiting classes as one of the 10 best in the country in each of his three seasons with 11 Wildcats have gone on to sign with NCAA Division I institutions. In his previous role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations for the team's recruiting, while also overseeing the Wildcats pitching staff. 2019 was a banner year for PRCC, setting a school record for wins, while also earning the No. 1 overall seed for the NJCAA World Series.

Before moving to PRCC, Izzio spent two seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi. Along with his duties in recruiting and coaching pitchers, Izzio also oversaw the strength and conditioning program, assisted with player housing and financial aid for members of the team, among other duties.

Upon earning his degree at the University of South Alabama, Izzio spent a season as the pitching coach at Spanish Fort High School in Alabama where he helped the Toros win 39 games during the season and capture the Class 5A state championship in 2014. That team also finished 11th according to the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 rankings.

Izzio pitched for South Alabama from 2012-13 posting an 8-1 record in 20 total appearances over two seasons with the Jaguars. He boasted a 3.41 ERA in those two seasons, striking out 67 and walking 23. In his senior year the Jaguars won 43 games and earned a share of the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship, securing at at-large bid to the NCAA Starkville Regional.

Prior to his time at South Alabama, he opened up his collegiate career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he recorded an 11-7 record on the mound with 128 strikeouts and 39 walks. He earned First Team All-MACJC honors as a sophomore following a 7-4 record.

Izzio earned his bachelor's degree from South Alabama in the winter of 2013.
