Thomas Brittle

Thomas Brittle enters his first season on the Charleston Southern baseball staff after joining the program in July 2021. Brittle serves as the volunteer assistant coach and works primarily with the outfielders, while also assisting with hitters and baserunning. In addition, he will be the Camp Coordinator for Marc MacMillan Baseball Camps.

Brittle comes to CSU by way of Clemson, where he spent the last two seasons as a graduate manager while obtaining his master’s degree. During his time on Monte Lee’s staff, Brittle worked with the Tiger hitters on a regular basis while also creating scouting reports on opposing pitchers. Brittle assisted the coaching staff during games and provided insight for in-game strategy, while also keeping track of hitting charts during games. Clemson won 39 games during Brittle’s two seasons as a graduate manager, including 14 in the shortened 2020 season.

Prior to his time on the staff at Clemson, Brittle spent three seasons at St. John’s Christian Academy in Moncks Corner, where he was the head varsity baseball coach. Brittle led the instruction for infield and outfield fundamentals, ran all hitting instruction and called pitches in-game for the Cavaliers. He was also the first base coach and ran the offense during games. St. John’s Christian Academy reached the SCISA State Semifinals in 2019, earning Brittle a coaching spot in that year’s SCISA Class A-AA All-Star Game.

In addition to his baseball coaching duties at St. John’s Christian Academy, Brittle served as the school’s athletic director. Brittle was in charge of scheduling all athletic events, arranging student-athlete transportation for events and managing the athletic budget. During his time as athletic director, he oversaw a summer weight training program for student-athletes. He coordinated the hiring and training of all coaches for the Cavaliers, while also preparing all facilities for events. Brittle also organized fundraisers to generate athletic department funds.

Brittle played in 199 games during his collegiate career, which was split between the College of Charleston (2009-10) and Clemson (2011-13). Brittle appeared in 76 games at the College of Charleston, posting a .276 average for a Cougar program that went 79-41 with an NCAA Tournament appearance during that span. Brittle transferred to Clemson following the 2010 season and started 117 games for the Tigers in the outfield, hitting .282 with 27 extra-base hits, 62 runs batted in and 34 stolen bases. He earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2012, was an ACC All-Academic selection in 2012 and 2013 and was named the ACC’s best defensive outfielder by Baseball America in 2013. Clemson was 75-50 during his two seasons patrolling the outfield, making the NCAA Tournament in both seasons.

Brittle holds a pair of degrees from Clemson. He earned his bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation and tourism management in May 2013 and his master’s degree in athletic leadership in May 2021.
