Brittney kenney

Brittney Kenney is currently in her second season at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She was named Head Women’s Basketball Coach on June 25, 2021.

This past season (2022-2023) Kenney guided the program to a record of 17-7 and earned the #3 spot in the United East Playoffs. The team saw the most wins since the 2008 campaign and also had it’s first second-team all region player selection. The season ended with the team earning United East Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year awards. All three were the first time awards in the program’s history. The team also had a First Team All-Conference player and two players land on Second Team All-Conference

In her first year at the helm, Kenney guided the Seahawks to their best finish in over a decade (since 2008) at 12-12 regular season, 10-6 in conference play. They earned themselves a playoff berth for the effort. Junior Karon Williams was named the United East Athlete of the Week once and earned herself a spot on the First-Team all conference while Junior Stephanie Howell secured a spot on the Second-Team All Conference. Off the court, the Seahawks were recognized by the WBCA Academic Top 25 with a special mention across all NCAA Women’s Basketball Divisions.

Kenney was awarded the 2022 NCAA WBCA Third under 30 special recognition for all up and coming women’s basketball coaches that exemplify leadership, mentorship, professional manner and attitude on and off the court and in the community.

Kenney joined the Seahawks after being on staff as the women's basketball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. At WPI, Kenney mentored multiple NEWMAC All-Conference Players, including one NEWMAC Player of the Year and NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year, Ama Biney. During her time at WPI, Ama Biney was also named as one of the top graduating student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions in 2017-18 with her selection for the NCAA Today's Top 10 Award.

Before moving to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2016 she was an assistant coach at Trinity College from 2014 - 2016. Kenney was able to aid in the development of one NESCAC All-Conference performer, Mackenzie Griffin. Prior to her time at Trinity, Kenney was a four year letter winner for Union College and was also elected a team captain as well as being named an All-Liberty League performer during her time there as a player.

Kenney was the acting Assistant Director of WPI’s Basketball Camp and Elite Camps for four years and also has coached/worked in numerous other camps across New England.

Kenney graduated from Union College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree and completed her Master's in American Studies from Trinity College in 2016.
