Nike Softball Camp Damian Williams Bio

Damian Williams enters his 20th season as the head softball coach at Willamette University in 2019. He has achieved a 354-333 overall record at WU (.515), and has led the Bearcats to a Northwest Conference mark of 265-227 (.539).

During the 2015 season, Damian had a tremendous professional development opportunity to be a part of the softball program at the University of Oregon. Williams was a member of the coaching staff that earned Regional Coaching Staff of the Year recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, as he helped lead the Ducks to a 51-8 record and the #2 overall seed in the NCAA National Tournament.

In 2014, Williams coached Willamette to an 18-22 overall record. The team's 14-14 NWC record placed fourth in the conference and clinched a bid to the NWC Tournament.

During the 2012 season, Willamette achieved a 21-15 overall record and went 19-9 in the NWC and played three games at the NWC Softball Tournament. The Bearcats were in a rebuilding year in 2013 and finished 14-24 on the season, 10-18 in the NWC.

In 2011, the Bearcats went 16-9 in the final 25 games to overcome a slow start and finish the season at 19-19. Willamette went 16-12 in the NWC and qualified for the NWC Tournament.

Williams led the Bearcats to six straight 20-win seasons from 2005-10. During those six seasons, the Bearcats achieved a combined record of 143-74 (.659).

Williams was selected NWC Coach of the Year in 2000, after leading the Bearcats to a 25-10 overall record and a second place tie in the NWC at 15-6. The 2000 team led the nation with an impressive 0.76 earned run average and was ranked #5 in the West Region.

The success of the 2000 team shows how much the team improved after Williams arrived. In 1998, the year before he took over, the Bearcats were 5-33. Two seasons later, WU was the most-improved squad in NCAA Division III in 2000, up 16 games from 1999 and 21.5 games from 1998.

Prior to joining the Willamette coaching staff for the 1999 season, Williams was the head coach at Shoreline Community College in Seattle for four years. Williams gradually improved the team, which went 25-12 in 1998 on its way to qualifying for the NWAACC Tournament.

Williams graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration. He earned a master's degree in Sports Administration from the Concordia University, Irvine in 2013. Williams resides in Salem with his wife, Genesis, and his two-year-old son, Everson.
