David Blackwell
Off-Field Camp Director

David enters his fourth season with the Shuckers and his third as the team’s Community Development Manager. Under his leadership, the Shuckers have spent more than 200 hours per year involved in giving back to the Gulf Coast via community engagement, service projects, fundraising support, & much more. Through the creation of the Heart of a Shucker Community Fund (launched July 3, 2023), the Shuckers have invested more than $75,000 across the Gulf Coast Community. Plans are in place to double that total for the 2025 & 2026 seasons.
Prior to joining the Shuckers, Blackwell spent a decade in the music business as a professional singer/songwriter between Birmingham and Nashville. He’s worked with several non-profits and in part time/volunteer roles with the New Orleans VooDoo (Arena Football League) and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation.
He currently serves as the president of the Gulfport School District CTE Advisory Committee, the Gulf Coast Chamber Champs Chair, a Keesler AFB Honorary Commander, and on several other boards/committees. When his Shuckers schedule allows, he is a player/manager for an over 35 baseball team based in his hometown of New Orleans. He is the host of the “Heart of a Shucker Community Podcast” as well as the “Play More Country Music Podcast”, both of which launch in January of 2025.
Born in Mobile, raised in New Orleans, he and his wife now call Bay St. Louis home, with the Biloxi Shuckers Directors of Team Morale (team dogs), Barqs & Shuck. David played collegiate baseball for the Mississippi College Choctaws before moving into a student assistant role. He’s an avid follower of the University of Alabama athletics, NASCAR, and country music.
