David Mcglone

David McGlone has been coaching and playing basketball for over twenty years, and is a current coach at Southern Maryland Christian Academy. Prior to coaching, he was a professional basketball player in the NBA. McGlone most recently, he led Team Marsh (BWSL) a team of 10U Boys to a Virginia District AAU Championship and third place finish at the Division II AAU Nationals in Clarksburg, Tennessee.

Before coaching at SMCA, McGlone coached at Washington Christian Academy, Progressive Christian Academy and Petersburg High School. In addition to coaching during each summer, he also routinely serves as an assistant coach for Premier Athletic Performance Association in the Pro-City/Kenner Summer League at Georgetown University.

After graduation college, Coach McGlone went on to a professional basketball career. His experience was highlighted in the summer of 1997 when he competed on a team of NBA rookies and free agents sponsored by the Philadelphia 76ers in the Charles Baker Summer Professional League in Philadelphia, PA. After extensive pursuit of professional opportunities, his desire to play professional basketball gradually lessened and his focus on youth development through coaching began. In the fall of 1998, he began his first Varsity Boys basketball coaching assignment and has been coaching in some capacity since then.

After two years at Columbia Union (currently Washington Adventist University), Coach McGlone transferred to St. Paul’s College (SPC) where he lettered as a point guard on the Men’s Basketball team. During his senior year at SPC, the small college achieved a national ranking (#15, NCAA DII) and won more games than any other team in the previous 85-year history of the institution. In 1997, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and was recognized as the “Rebate Marketing Student of the year” for his success in the classroom.

David McGlone grew up in Suitland, Maryland. He attended the Prince George’s County public school system from first grade through graduation from Suitland High School in 1992. A gifted athlete, Coach McGlone played both football and basketball during his high school athletic career. Transferring schools after his junior year, he was unexpectedly cut from the high school basketball team and had no athletic scholarship offers coming out of high school. However, through the diligent efforts of a community coach and steady support from family, he went on to receive a basketball scholarship to Columbia Union College in the fall of 1993.

In addition to coaching, Coach McGlone is a professional educator with over twenty years of classroom experience. He is a certified personal trainer (CPT) with a teaching background in health, physical education, personal finance, economics, business law, and management. He currently resides in Upper Marlboro, MD with his wife and two children.
