Erik Billinger enters his sixth season as head coach of the men's golf team in 2019-20.

The former Pioneer led the program to new heights in 2018-19, guiding his squad to its first Summit League Championship in five years with a 15-stroke win at the league championship in Newton, Kan. The team's great season was rewarded with its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2014.

Billinger also captured his first Summit League Coach of the Year honor for his work during the season, helping develop a young roster into a championship-caliber team, highlighted by the selection of freshman Cal McCoy to the All-Summit League First Team. McCoy also took home Championship MVP honors at the league championship along with being named Newcomer of the Year by the league at the end of the season.

In 2017-18, Billinger led his team to a runner-up finish at the Summit League Championship. He was instrumental in the continued development of senior Chris Korte, who was a first-team All-Summit League selection.

Billinger joined the Pioneers in August 2012 after 10 years as a PGA golf instructor at the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.

After graduating from the University of Denver in 2002, Billinger spent two seasons splitting time between the DU men's and women's golf programs, supporting both head coaches with recruiting and practice planning.

Since putting his collegiate-coaching career on hold, Billinger has served as a PGA Instructor and the owner of Billinger Golf LCC at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club, the home of Pioneer Golf. During his time at DU's home course, Billinger has mentored and instructed golfers of all levels, including high school, college and professional players.

Billinger has received several prestigious awards in his industry including 2008 Colorado PGA Player of the Year and 2010 and 2012 Colorado PGA Teacher of the Year. Billinger's playing accomplishments include qualifying for four PGA Professional National Championships, winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Scratch 2 times, along with several victories locally in PGA Section events.

During his Pioneer career, Billinger was a two-time NCAA individual qualifier, a Sun Belt Conference Individual Champion (2001) and an Academic All-American (2002).

Billinger married DU alumnae Megan Billinger in 2003. Megan graduated with her MBA at DU in 2002 and played lacrosse for the Pioneers and served as the team captain. They have three children, Macy, Joey, and Brooks.
