Evan Sassano

Camp Director

Evan Sassano - Camp Director

Evan Sassano brings a proven track record of player development and program building as the inaugural Head Coach of UW–River Falls Men’s Soccer. Hired in 2023, Sassano has already established himself as a dynamic leader with years of experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels.

Before joining UW–River Falls, Sassano spent three seasons as the lead assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas, where he guided the program through its historic transition from Division III to Division I—the first ever DI men’s soccer program in Minnesota. Under his leadership, the Tommies closed their first DI season with three straight wins and followed up with shutout victories and draws against nationally ranked opponents. As the team’s lead recruiter, Sassano brought in standout talent, including multiple All-Summit League performers.

Previously, Sassano served as head coach at Holy Names University (DII), where he led the program to its winningest season in school history. He also contributed to major milestones as an assistant at San Francisco State, helping the team earn its first playoff berth in 39 years, and at his alma mater, UC Berkeley, where he helped guide the Golden Bears to a No. 1 national ranking and an NCAA Elite Eight finish.

A California native and 2011 graduate of UC Berkeley, Sassano was a four-year starting defender, winning two Pac-12 Championships before playing professionally in Germany, the Netherlands, and in the U.S. for the Minnesota Stars (NASL).
