Assistant Head Football Coach Fred Manuel is entering his fourth season with the Lane College football program.
A 33-year veteran to the college football world, Manuel graduated from Vallejo High School in Vallejo, Ca. After lettering three years at the University of Oregon, he turned down a contract with the San Francisco 49ers to pursue his coaching career.
Manuel began his career at Brown University. He then went on to coach at Cornell, The Air Force Academy, The University of Idaho and Southern Illinois before taking a position as the defensive secondary coach at The University of Memphis in 1986 where he coached Lane College Head Coach and Athletic Director Derrick Burroughs.
After a six-year stint at Memphis, Manuel went on to coach at Marshall, The University of Louisville, Temple University, Fort Valley State University and Lincoln University.
Coach Manuel said his passion for coaching goes beyond the field or even the classroom, it’s the difference that he tries to make in a young man’s life, mentoring them to not only be great athletes, but to also become great men.
