Hancock Day School recently announced the hire of Athletic Director Jason Helton. Coach Helton brings with him over 20 years of coaching and teaching experience at both the collegiate and high school levels.

Helton began his basketball coaching career as a student assistant at The University of Georgia for the men’s basketball program. Helton then became an assistant men’s basketball coach at Armstrong State University leading the Pirates to back-to-back Division II NCAA Tournament appearances. Upon leaving Armstrong, Helton assumed the role of head basketball coach and physical education instructor at Windsor Forest High School. While at Windsor Forest, the Knights made it to the state tournament ending a nine-year playoff drought. After the 2008 season, Helton accepted a position at Benedictine Military School where he served as the head basketball coach, assistant football coach, and assistant track coach in addition to the head of the physical education department. For the past five years, Helton has juggled a career in sales management alongside his role as director of basketball operations and head boy’s high school basketball coach for The Habersham School. The past two seasons have proven very successful for the Helton-led Patriots, bringing home the school’s first region championship and making consecutive state tournament elite eight appearances.

Helton received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Exercise Science from The University of Georgia and a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from Georgia Southern University. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a certified Sportsmetrix trainer. Both natives of Savannah, Helton and his wife Posey, have three children.
