Jerry McFarland
Director
Jerry McFarland came to
Washington Adventist University as the Office Manager for Athletics and
Director of Basketball Recruiting in 2016. He was promoted to Assistant
Director of Athletics in the summer of 2023. Jerry comes to WAU with 25 years
of high school and AAU coaching experience, as well as 25 years of accounting
experience with KPMG and Fannie Mae, respectively. He is well known in
Maryland, D.C., and Virginia for his development of players on and off the
court.
Prior to coming to Washington Adventist University, McFarland spent four years as the head boys basketball coach at Takoma Academy. During his time at Takoma Academy, he accomplished two 20-win seasons, three tournament championships, and two historic victories over national power Montrose Christian and Riverdale Baptist high schools. He has also spent time as an assistant on varsity and head JV coach at Coolidge, Riverdale Baptist, and Bishop Ireton while coaching AAU. His AAU career has allowed him to coach a number of current players overseas, as well as current NBA players Rodney McGruder and Mike Beasley. He began his AAU career with the grassroots program D.C. Assault and, most recently, with Team Loaded (VA). He feels both AAU programs as well as his high school experiences have prepared him well for all aspects of collegiate coaching.
McFarland played for legendary Frostburg State University coach Webb Hatch at Marymount University (1987) and has his B.S. in Human Resource Management from the University of Maryland University College.
