John Hedengren
Camp Director
John Hedengren leads the Roadrunner Junior Club and is a professor of chemical engineering at Brigham Young University. Based in Provo, he helps young runners develop endurance, speed, confidence, and a lasting enjoyment of running. Through Roadrunner’s in-person and remote programs, he works with athletes and collegiate mentors to create a supportive community for runners of all abilities.
John brings an engineering perspective to coaching, combining training data with individual feedback to help athletes understand their progress and build consistent habits. His approach emphasizes age-appropriate training, running technique, strength, teamwork, and race preparation. An avid runner and father of five, including BYU runners Jane and Isaac Hedengren, he values the friendships and personal growth that cross-country makes possible. At camp, his goal is for every athlete to leave with practical skills, new connections, and enthusiasm for the season ahead.
