Jonathan Canalin
Co-Director
Jonathan Canalin joined the staff in the summer of 2024. He brings a wealth of experience to Lewis & Clark having coached for 22 seasons.
Over the years, he has coached in high school and travel basketball, with a significant portion of his career spent as a varsity head coach and or varsity assistant coach. His varsity coaching journey includes tenures at Encinal High School in Alameda, California (2009-2015) and Ida B. Wells High School in Portland (2022-2024). Canalin has coached at numerous club basketball teams in the Oakland, California area and Beaverton/Portland area. Additionally, from 2017 to 2024, Canalin had his biggest impact with Deny Basketball, where he led the player development position and the integration of skills into team play. He is a strong advocate for the philosophy that coaches teach the game and the players will make the plays.
Outside of coaching, Canalin has experience in the apparel printing industry and currently works for Shirts and Skins Basketball, a basketball lifestyle apparel and uniform company based in Tualatin, Oregon. In his role at S&S, he serves as the point guard – aka "the art guy." Canalin spends his day time role leading the company in anything art related. Originally from Alameda, California, Jonathan now resides in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and three children.
