Josh Hess returns for his seventh season in 2019-2020 as head coach of the women's soccer team at Mount St. Joseph University. Hess, the fourth head coach in the school’s history came to the Mount from Division III Capital University, where he was an assistant coach and head Junior Varsity coach for the Crusader’s men’s program last fall. Prior to that, Hess was the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Pearl River Community College (Poplarville, Mississippi) from 2007-2009. He was also the assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at Pearl River Community College, from 2006-2007.

During the 2018-2019 season, Hess led the team to a first place conference tournament finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, their first conference championship in 10 years. The team went on to participate in the NCAA DIII Tournament. They travelled to Washington Univeristy in St. Louis, Missouri to take on Illinois Wesleyan in the first round. The Lions ultimately fell to the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan, but put up a tough fight that included a huge comback that tied the game up 3-3, before concieding the final goal of the game and losing to a final score of 4-3. The Lions hope to continue to make an impact in the coming seasons with goals of making it back to the NCAA Tournament.

Hess also has club soccer experience as well, as a technical director/coach/club trainer for CUSA Courage this past season; a club trainer for Kings Soccer Academy from 2009-2011; and a staff coach for Gulf Coast United Footbal Club from 2007-2009. He has Olympic Development Experience as a Staff Coach, and has participated in the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association, Mississippi Youth Soccer Association, and Ohio South Youth Soccer Association.

He is currently a member of the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association Women’s ODP program as the Head Coach for the 1999 age group. He was a member of the Boys 1991 Coaching Staff for Mississippi Youth Soccer and from 2004-2006. Hess also participated as a staff coach for Ohio Youth Soccer Association ODP program from 2003-2004.

In addition, he has camp experience as a Staff Coach for the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association (2011 – 2012), and teaching experience on the OSYSA Coaching Education Staff (Ohio South Youth Soccer Association) since 2009; on the KYSA Coaching Education Staff (Kentucky Youth Soccer Association) since 2009; and as an instructor at Pearl River Community College, from 2006-2008.

Coach Hess played collegially at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and at Fredonia State University. He has a bachelor of art’s degree in Sports Medicine from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, and a master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati.

He holds licenses and certificates of: USSF B License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF National Youth License, and CPR/First Aid (American Heart Association).


He is currently a member of the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association Women’s ODP program as the Head Coach for the 1999 age group.
