Harvey joined the coaching ranks following a decorated career at SIUE. He earned Second Team All-American distinction in 2018 after placing 12th in the long jump with a mark of 7.75m (25-05.50) at the NCAA Championships while also collecting Honorable Mention All-American status in the high jump. He qualified for the NCAA Championship in the high jump after clearing 2.15m (7-01.00) and finishing third at the NCAA West Regional. At the 2018 OVC Championships, he went on to be named Co-Field Athlete of the Year and OVC Championship MVP after placing first in the long and triple jumps, second in the high jump and third in the 100m.

In 2017, Harvey won the long jump at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship with a leap of 8.17m, the longest jump by an American during the season and No. 1 in the world at the time. Harvey would go on to receive two All-America accolades in the long jump and high jump, respectively. At season's end, he was named the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA.

In all, Harvey was a three-year team captain, a six-time NCAA Division I All-American, an 11-time OVC champion and four-time Athlete of the Year selection. In 2016, he was selected as U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier. In addition to competing on the track, Harvey was a five-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Southern Illinois and served as a conference representative from 2014 to 2018. He was also selected by the OVC to represent the conference at the NCAA Leadership Development Summit in 2016.

Harvey owns a pair of degrees from SIUE, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2018 and a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology in 2019.

Harvey is in his second season as an assistant track and field coach at Indiana State and joined the program in September 2023. Harvey works primarily with the Sycamores' sprinters and relays.

The 2023-24 season saw multiple records set for the Sycamores as part of the program's first men's and women's indoor-outdoor conference championship sweep. Indiana State's quartet of Casey Hood Jr., Daunte Majors, Isiah Thomas and Tahj Johnson broke the program record in the 4x100m relay (39.64), while Hood Jr. (60m) and Terrance O'Bannon (100m) both won individual event MVC titles. Janiya Bowman (200m) and Angel Thomas (100m) both cracked the program top 10 in sprints events, while Michelle McDonald climbed the program top-10 charts in both short sprints events. Not to be outdone, the Sycamores' women's 4x100m relay team earned all-conference honors with the program's fastest time in nearly 10 years (45.48).

Harvey comes to Terre Haute from Wagner University, where he was an assistant track and field coach for the Seahawks from 2021-23 and worked with the sprints, jumps, hurdles and relay groups. During his time on Staten Island, Wagner captured back-to-back NEC Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while the Seahawks also earned their best NEC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship finish in program history with a runner-up result at the 2023 NEC Indoor Championships. Harvey was part of the NEC Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coaching Staffs of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.

Harvey's tenure at Wagner saw 14 school records set, while 13 Seahawks earned NEC titles, in addition to four NEC team championships. 67 Seahawks who trained under Harvey earned NEC honors, while one Wagner student-athlete, Jason Marchese, qualified for the 2023 NCAA East First Round, reaching the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles. Wagner's indoor and outdoor men's 200m, men's 400m, men's 800m and men's 4x400m school records were all set by athletes Harvey coached. In addition to those records, Harvey also coached Wagner's school record holders in the men's 500m (indoor), men's 600m (indoor), men's 400m hurdles (outdoor), women's 4x400m relay (indoor), women's sprint medley relay (indoor), women's pole vault (indoor) and men's long jump (outdoor).

In addition to his coach duties with the Seahawks, Harvey oversaw daily operations including budgets, staff meetings and scholarship allotment. He also helped apply a new social media strategy to team accounts which increased student-athlete visibility and improved Wagner's recruiting ability.

Prior to his time at Wagner, Harvey began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Wisconsin where he worked with the Badgers' sprints and jumps groups while working under the pole vault and multis coach during the 2019-20 season. In addition to his coaching duties with the Badgers, he also coordinated campus tours and visits for incoming recruits.
