Laine Simmons

Laine Simmons begins her third season as an assistant coach with the Fairfield University softball program. Simmons comes to the Stags after coaching at various youth level programs since her graduation from Bowling Green State University.

Simmons brings a great deal of experience to the Stags bench both as a coach and as a player. She started her collegiate career at Morehead State University where she played two years as a catcher. She transferred to Bowling Green State University for her final two seasons where she earned All-Conference honors as a catcher after leading the team in home runs during conference play.

At Morehead State, Simmons started 46 games and hovered around the .250 mark over her two-year stay. She batted .250 with 10 runs scored and 12 RBI and hit a team co-leading three home runs as a freshman. As a sophomore, she ended the campaign with a .244 hitting percentage with two doubles and two homers, including a three-run walk-off home run in the 2016 season opener against Cleveland State.

Simmons started 40 of her 44 appearances in her junior year at Bowling Green with 33 of those starts coming from behind the plate. As a catcher, she threw out 13 base stealers and collected an impressive .977 fielding percentage. She also had success at the plate with 29 hits and six doubles. In her final season, Simmons batted a personal-best .287 with four doubles and six home runs, and 17 RBI.
